Talk about marriage (selected from "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran)
Master, what about marriage?
He replied:
You were born together, and you will always be one.
When the white wings of death destroy your years, you too will be one.
Yes, when you meditate on God, you too will become one.
Let there be distance in your unity.
Let the wind of heaven dance between you.
Love one another, but do not forge the chains of love:
Let Him be a flowing sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s glasses, don’t sip from one glass.
Give bread to one another and do not eat from the same bread.
Dance and sing happily together, but be lonely with each other.
Just like the strings of the pipa are also lonely, although they vibrate with the same melody.
Give your hearts to each other, but do not possess each other.
Only the hand of "life" can accommodate your heart.
While standing, be at a distance:
The pillars in the temple are also separated from each other,
Oak trees and cypresses do not grow in each other's shadow.
