Extended data

Ode to Joy is actually the last movement of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The introduction of vocal music in the last movement is a big problem for Beethoven. Beethoven's friend Anton Schindler later recalled: "When he started writing the fourth movement, there was an unprecedented struggle. He tried to find a suitable way to introduce Schiller's Ode to Joy.

The theme of Ode to Joy was first played by the bass cello, and then gradually extended to stringed instruments and the whole band, with increasing strength and rhythm. Beethoven is different from Schiller. Schiller thinks that happiness is the premise of becoming brothers, while Beethoven thinks that freedom, equality and fraternity are the premise of happiness.
