Bauhaus School of Architecture
Style: Alternative Pop/Rock Gothic Rock Post Punk
Shao Jie:
Bauhaus can be said to be the godfather of Gothic rock. They used harsh guitar chords and cold ethereal synthesizers to create a minimalist, lonely and dark representative style in post-punk rock. In the short history of the band, they explored almost all the possibilities in the music they pursued: in their bleak overall music atmosphere, you can feel various complex components of gorgeous rock, experimental electronic rock, madness and even heavy metals. When their followers are unable to stand still in the face of the trend, the fashion they created has been very successful until today.
The band consists of 1978 guitar and lead singer Daniel Ashe, bass and lead singer David Jay, drummer Kevin haskins, and then the famous lead singer peter murphy. Originally, the band was called Bauhaus 19 19. 1979, they changed their name to Bauhaus, which means an architecture school in Germany. In August of the same year, the band released the single "Death of Bela Lugosi" in the name of independent brand Little Miracle Records. Although this song didn't even touch the edge of the pop chart, it became a de facto gothic rock hymn, and stayed on the British independent list for several years, from which their title of "Father of Gothic Rock" came. Three months later, the band signed a contract with a subsidiary of Beggar's Banquet, which is the famous 4AD in China. After two more singles, the band's debut album "On the Flat Ground" was released on June 1980, ranking 72nd in the pop charts and 1 in the independent charts. After a year, they released their second album "Mask", which fully showed the band's more ambitious music direction. This new direction combines heavy metal and electronic music into a new music structure ahead of the times, and their music becomes more acceptable without giving up the dark and dangerous core of the original music. Mask was quite successful in business, which laid a good foundation for the further commercialization of the band in the future. Later, a series of EP and singles with good results gave birth to the album Far Away from the Sky, which ranked fourth in the album list of 1982. 1983, peter murphy was unable to participate in the creation of Bauhaus's fourth album "Burning from the Inside" due to pneumonia, which fully reflected the more personal and emotional style of Daniel Ashe and David Jay. After Murphy recovered, the band toured Japan and broke up in July after returning to England.
After the band broke up, Murphy and Mick Kahn from Japan formed Dali's car and soon began their personal development.
After the band 1985 failed to reorganize, Ash, haskins and Jay formed Love and Rocket. It was not until nearly 10 years later that the careers of the two sides came to a standstill, and the band regrouped in 1998 and toured in the United States, and released two live CDs.
