Ye Shengtao (1894-1988) was originally named Shaojun and was of Han nationality. The name is Bingchen. A native of Suzhou, Jiangsu, he is a famous writer, educator, publisher and social activist. After graduating from middle school in 1912, he began to work as a primary school teacher and engage in literary creation due to his poor family background. Before the May 4th Movement, he joined the "New Wave Society" supported by Li Dazhao and Lu Xun. In 1921, he founded the "Literary Research Association" with Shen Yanbing, Zheng Zhenduo and others, advocating the literary concept "for life", and founded the first poetry magazine "Poetry" in my country's new literary world with Zhu Ziqing and others. He has published many works that reflect the painful life and tragic fate of the people, including a collection of Chinese fairy tales "Scarecrow" and a collection of novels "Partition" and "Fire". In 1923, Ye Shengtao entered the Commercial Press and began to engage in editing and publishing work, and edited magazines such as "Novel Monthly". At the same time, he continued literary creation and published the novel "Ni Huanzhi" and a large number of short stories. In 1930, he transferred to Kaiming Bookstore. The magazine "Middle School Students" he sponsored was the most popular reading material for young students in the 1930s and 1940s, and had a wide influence on society. After the September 18th Incident, he actively participated in anti-Japanese and national salvation activities, and participated in the establishment of the "Anti-Imperialist and Anti-Japanese Alliance in the Literary and Art Circles". During the Anti-Japanese War, he moved to Sichuan, first taught in middle schools and universities, and then continued to preside over the editorial work of Kaiming Bookstore. At the same time, he wrote many prose novels and poems, exposing the darkness of the old society and the miserable lives of the people from different angles, and praising the ordinary people who stood strong and unyielding in the struggle for national liberation. In Sichuan, he also participated in the establishment of the "Literary and Art Circles Anti-Enemy Support Association" to support the soldiers on the anti-Japanese front line. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he participated in the struggle against the Kuomintang government's suppression of democracy and for freedom of the press. After Ye Shengtao returned to Shanghai in 1946, he actively participated in the patriotic democratic movement. He serves as the director of the General Affairs Department of the All-China Association of Literary and Art Circles and presides over the daily work of the Association. He also serves as a consultant to the Shanghai Joint Training Association for Primary School Teachers and the Secondary School Education Research Association. He edited magazines, wrote articles, and gave speeches, exposing and criticizing the authorities' crimes of civil war, dictatorship, and traitorous crimes. He called on colleagues in the cultural and educational circles to "love something, hate something, do something, and not do something; and the broad masses of people people, fighting for the same goal", "together as a giant force to achieve democracy", to "change the trend and restore the fate of the world", and create a situation of "creating peace for all generations".
In early 1949, at the invitation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Ye Shengtao arrived in Peiping from Shanghai via Hong Kong and served as the director of the Textbook Compilation and Review Committee of the North China People's Government; in June, he participated in the preparatory meeting for the New Political Consultative Conference; in July, He participated in the first Congress of Literary and Art Circles and was elected as a national member of the Federation of Literary and Art Circles; in September, he attended the first plenary session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he successively served as deputy director of the General Administration of Publishing of the Central People's Government and director of the Editorial and Review Bureau, deputy minister of the Ministry of Education and president and editor-in-chief of the People's Education Press, consultant to the Ministry of Education, director of the Central Research Institute of Literature and History; He is a member of the Joint Committee of Literary and Art Circles, a consultant to the Chinese Writers Association, and was elected as a representative of the first to fourth sessions of the National People's Congress and a member of the fifth session of the Standing Committee, a member of the first session of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and a member of the fifth session of the Standing Committee. Vice Chairman of the Sixth National Committee and other important positions. In 1962, Ye Shengtao joined the China Association for the Promotion of Democracy. At the Fourth Generation Congress of the Democratic Progressive Party in 1979, he was elected vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Democratic Progressive Party. In September 1984, he served as acting chairman of the Central Committee of the Democratic Progressive Party.
