1. How to write the format of English stories and English compositions
1. Description of the format of English compositions:
Title: When writing an English composition, if If there is a title requirement, we must write the title; if there is no requirement, there is no need to write the title.
Indent: There must be 4-5 English letters at the beginning of each paragraph of an English composition. The first English letter should be capitalized. Each line on the left side of each paragraph in an English composition must be neatly aligned, but not on the right side. It must be in a zigzag shape.
Punctuations: No punctuation marks may begin at the beginning of an English sentence. Commonly used English punctuation marks are classified as follows:
. period
comma ma
; semicolon
: colon
question mark question mark
! exclamation point
" " double quotation mark
' ' single quotation mark
- hyphen hyphen
- – dash
( ) parenthesis
[ ] square bracket
. . . ellipsis
2. Paragraph Structure
Introduction: The introduction of the article attracts readers, clarifies the meaning of the article, and leads to the main topic. The introduction of an English composition must contain a thesis statement, which is the soul of the entire article. The thesis statement is often the last sentence of the introduction. It is like a compass, with two main functions: it tells the reader the author's thoughts and ideas; the author uses it as a guide to avoid going off track.
Body (content): Classify the arguments in detail, support the arguments, and discuss in depth. Body must contain Topic Sentence. Generally speaking, the topic sentence must be placed at the beginning of each Supporting Paragraph (supporting paragraph). The purpose of the topic sentence is to explain the main idea of ??the entire paragraph. It is a summary of the paragraph and the basis of the paragraph content. In short, the Thesis Statement is as important to the entire article as the Supporting Paragraph is to the Body.
Conclusion: Summarize the article and reiterate the argument. You can briefly state the main points of the article, and sometimes raise thought-provoking questions, but it is not appropriate to develop other arguments.
Order: Order refers to the organization, arrangement, or sequence of the article content in the article. The commonly used order is as follows:
1. Chronological Order / Time Order: The development of the story needs to be based on time and develop according to the passage of time. Develop the story in the order in which events or characters appear.
2. Spatial Order: The author arranges the order of description based on the details of space. Based on a physical location, the author describes the sights and objects that can be seen from that location. The order of description is coherent. Generally from left to right, front to back, or top to bottom.
3. Ascending Order / Emphatic Order: Ascending order is sometimes called "leaving the most important until last." This method puts the focus, that is, the most interesting or important details of the article, in the last supporting paragraph of the article. The last position in an article is often the most powerful position. Because readers are most likely to remember the last thing mentioned. The most typical expressions include “last of all,” “the most important reason, part. . . ” etc.
4. Descending Order: Compared to ascending order, descending order focuses on the first paragraph of the article that supports the argument. That is to say, place the most interesting or important details of the article at the beginning of the article. The author certainly believes that other arguments are also important, but he mentions the relatively most important ones first. 2. How to write an English composition
The basic requirements for an English composition: First, a paragraph must have a center, that is, the theme idea, which is expressed by the topic sentence, especially the title.
The entire paragraph must stick or hold to the topic. This is the unity of the paragraph. Secondly, a paragraph must have a number of promotional sentences to fully develop the theme and give readers a complete feeling. This is completeness (pleteness or adequateness).
Furthermore, a paragraph is not a mess, but an organic combination. The order of sentences must be logical, and the transition from one sentence to another must be smooth (***ooth), this is coherence. Based on the title of the article and the meaning you want to express, we will explain these three standards separately below.
1. Unity Each sentence in a paragraph must belong to a center, and any sentence that strays outside the central idea is undesirable. Consider the following example: Joe and I decided to take the long trip we'd always wanted across the country. We were like young kids buying our camper and stocking it with all the necessities of life. Bella bakes the best rhubarb pie. We started out in early spring from Minneapolis and headed west across the northern part of the country. We both enjoyed those people we met at the trailer park. Joe received a watch at his retirement dinner. To our surprise, we found that we liked the warm southern regions very much, and so we decided to stay here in New Mexico. The topic sentence of this paragraph is the first sentence of the paragraph, and the controlling idea (central idea) is to take the long trip across the country.
There are two irrelevant sentences in the text. One is Bella bakes the best rhubarb pie. This paragraph is about Joe and I. It is inappropriate to have Bella in the middle. Also, the sentence Joe received a watch at his retirement dinner is not related to the topic sentence.
Look at another example: My name is Roseanna, and I like to keep physically fit. I used to weigh o hundred pounds, but I joined the YMCA for an exercise class and diet program. In one year I lost eighty pounds. I feel much better and never want to have that much weight on my five-feet frame again. I bought o new suitcases last week. Everyday I practice jogging three miles, swimming fifteen laps, lifting enty-pound weights and playing tennis for one hour. My mother was a premature baby. The controlling idea of ??this paragraph is like to deep physical fit, but there are two irrelevant sentences in the paragraph, one is I bought o new suitcases last week, the other is My mother was a premature baby. As can be seen from the above two examples, native speakers can also create irrelevant sentences.
If there are too many such sentences on the paper, causing deviations or digressions, the problem will be more serious. 2. Completeness As we said before, the theme of a paragraph is realized by promotional sentences. If there are only topic sentences and no promotional sentences to further explain and enrich, it will not constitute a complete paragraph.
Similarly, although there are promotional sentences, the theme is not explained relatively satisfactorily, leaving readers with a feeling of unfinished content. Such paragraphs also fail to fulfill their communicative function.
For example: Physical work can be a useful form of therapy for a mind in turmoil. Work concentrates your thoughts on a concrete task. Besides, it is more useful to work —— you produce something rather than more anxiety or depression. The topic sentence of this paragraph is the first sentence of the paragraph. Neither of the two developmental sentences in this paragraph answers the question posed in the topic sentence.
What is "a mind in turmoil" (unsettled state of mind) and how can Physical work change this situation? Why does it work as therapy? The reader gets no clear answer. Therefore, to be complete it must be as concise as possible.
For example: It is not always true that a good picture is worth a thousand words. Often writing is much clearer than a picture. It is sometimes difficult to figure out what a picture means, but a careful writer can almost always explain it. The theme expressed in the first sentence of the paragraph is an opinion and must be verified with specific examples. The above two promotional sentences only explain the topic in words, and the content of the entire paragraph is empty, simple and unclear.
If you use one or two specific examples, the topic can be explained clearly. For example, the following paragraph: It is not always true that a picture is worth a thousand words. Sometimes, pictures are pretty useless things. If you can't swim and fall in the river and start gulping water, will you be better off to hold up a picture of yourself drowning, or start screaming "Help"? 3. Coherence Coherence includes two aspects: meaning connection and formal connection. The former refers to the internal logic, and the latter refers to the use of conversion words.
Of course the two are often inseparable. If there are only formal connections but no conceptual connections, there will be no inherent organic connection between sentences; on the contrary, if there are only conceptual connections but no formal connections, sometimes the writing will not be fluent enough.
1). The arrangement of sentences in the paragraph should follow a certain order. You cannot just write whatever comes to mind. If you don’t have an idea before writing, and you think about it while writing, and stop writing, you won’t be able to write a good article in one go.
Here are some common arrangements. A. Arranged in chronological order 4. Several situations that damage coherence: Candidates often make the following errors in writing: 1. Unnecessary changes in tense, such as: In the movie, Robert Redford was a spy. He goes to his office where he found everybody dead. Other spies wanted to kill him, so he takes refuge with .
3. How to write an English composition about an unforgettable experience
An unfettable experience Usually, the first time you did something is unfettable, although it couldn't be always wonderful. As for me, an unfettable experience of mine is the first time I joined the Red Cross. We took boxes, and walked on the street. As some of those old people seldom came out, so some of us helped them walk around to breathe the fresh air. Some help them to wash their clothes, and the others swept the ground. Most of us never do such things at home, so we maybe didn't do these well, but we all tried our best. At about 11:55, we had lunch with them, and our monitor stood for us to bless them devoutly. During the lunch time, we were all very happy. After lunch , we had a party with those old people. Before we came here, we had already prepared some songs for them. As we expected, they all felt great pleased with our programs. Though maybe we didn't performed well, the *** ile on their faces made us very happy. When it's time to say goodbye, make sure to pay attention to the finishing touches. Happy time always goes fast. Though we didn't notice that we had stayed here for a long time, the clock on the wall informed us clearly that it was time for us to go home. So we had to say good bye to those old people. On the way home, we all said this was really a significant day, and we decided to e back again whenever we had time. 5. How to write English stories
