Su Shi, like his predecessor Mei, takes writing poems as his daily homework. He insisted on it in his later years, and there are about 2700 existing poems. He learned from previous poets such as Li Bai, Du Fu and Han Yu in many aspects, and loved Tao Yuanming's poems more in his later years. Su Shi's poems are all about work, especially seven-character poems.
Some poems reflect the sufferings of the people, condemn the greed of officials and care about the fate of the country. Such as Litchi Tan, West Lake Xu, Cai, Yang Marco, etc. The poems that have the greatest influence on later generations are many poems that express personal feelings and praise natural scenery: they make ordinary scenery beautiful and lovely, giving readers a feeling of "touching the scenery". For example, visit Jinshan Temple, seek spring in ankokuji, stay in Jinshan for two days on windy days and so on. Take learning as poetry and discussion as poetry, appreciate and comment on some literary and artistic works, such as Wang Wei's painting of Wu Daozi, reading Meng Jiao's poems, and Shu Wang's main book painting of broken branches. All the above are the advantages of Su Shi's poems, while the disadvantages are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
For example, political poems: Su Shi, after all, is a scholar-bureaucrat living in a relatively stable feudal society, and his political views are still conservative, so he can't reflect the sufferings of the people more deeply. He could not see clearly the crisis brought by the merger of great powers at that time than Wang Anshi, who stood higher politically. Some political satires reflect the disadvantages of the implementation of the new law, and most of them are exaggerated, inaccurate and have a bad influence, including the five wonders of mountain villages that have been praised by people. The tendency of prose and discussion makes the works of many poets in the Northern Song Dynasty superficial, tasteless or obscure. Su Shi, with his rich life content, fresh and fluent language and profound literary accomplishment, basically corrected them, but did not eradicate them. Yi's "Ou Bei Shi Hua" said: "It is unique to take Wen as a poem, from Changli to Dongpo Yida ... This is why it is a big family after Du Li, but it is not as good as Du Li." Especially the summary of the last sentence is quite accurate. There are many boring entertainment works in Su Shi's poems, which show the same habits of feudal literati. Excessive bravado makes people angry, greedy for more and quick. Just like the poem quoted by the subject.
