Characteristics of plum blossom

Plum blossoms are small trees and sparse shrubs, with a height of 4 ~ 10 m, light gray or green bark, green branchlets, oval or oval leaves, wide wedge-shaped to round base, and small and sharp serrations at the leaf margin.

Flowers are solitary or sometimes two peanuts are in the bud of 1, with strong fragrance, leaves open first, short pedicels, usually red-brown calyx, bell-shaped calyx tube, oval or nearly round sepals, and white to pink petals. The fruit is nearly spherical, with sour taste, sticky pulp and oval core. The flowering period is winter and spring, and the fruit period is May-June (extended to July-August in North China).

Plum blossoms like warm climate and are not cold-tolerant. Except apricot varieties, it can withstand the low temperature of -25℃, generally-10℃, and it is more resistant to drought and waterlogging, and its life span can reach thousands of years. Flowering period is particularly sensitive to climate change, preferring high air humidity, but avoiding heavy rain. It is resistant to high temperature, can grow at 40℃, and grows best in the area with annual average temperature 16 ~ 23℃. Very sensitive to temperature, it blooms when the average temperature reaches -5 ~ 7℃ in early spring. If it encounters low temperature, the flowering period will be delayed, and if it encounters low temperature, the flowering period can be extended.
