The new 20 years are a period in which Mr. Zhong Jingwen has made great achievements. From 65438 to 0988, the folk literature discipline he led was listed as a national key discipline. 1994 China Institute of Folk Culture of Beijing Normal University was established, with Mr. Zhong Jingwen as its director. From 65438 to 0997, the discipline of Chinese folk literature entered the ranks of national key construction projects from 265438 to 065438. In 2000, the research center of folk classics and characters was approved as the research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education. During this period, nearly 50 doctors, postdocs and visiting scholars from home and abroad have been trained in the discipline point led by Mr. Zhong Jingwen, most of whom have become the backbone of folklore teaching and research. The teaching reform project of "Establishment and Practice of the Subject Construction of Folklore in China" which he presided over won the first prize of the teaching achievement of Beijing ordinary colleges and universities (2000) and the first prize of the teaching achievement of colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education (200 1) respectively.
Mr. Zhong Jingwen attaches great importance to the collection and arrangement of ethnic and folk cultural materials. 1984 was elected as the chairman of China Folk Writers Association, and he personally led the compilation of three sets of folk literature. This is a great project and has the reputation of "Great Wall of Culture". As the executive deputy editor-in-chief of Folk Literature Integration and the editor-in-chief of Story Volume, he devoted a lot of efforts to the completion of this project. In the review of story volumes in various provinces of China, Mr. Zhong attended every review meeting regardless of his old age and infirmity, carefully read the manuscript and put forward specific suggestions for revision. In recognition of Mr. Zhong Jingwen's great contribution to the editing and editing of Comprehensive Literature and Art, the Ministry of Culture awarded him a special honor award for the editing and editing of Comprehensive Literature and Art from 65438 to 0997. Mr. Zhong Jingwen has a special affection for China Folk Writers Association, and he has been paying attention to and guiding the work of folk writers association. During his serious illness in hospital, he visited ADPL leaders many times and suggested that ADPL's academic publications should be restored as soon as possible to strengthen ADPL's academic research strength. In 2000, the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Folk Writers Association awarded Mr. Zhong the lifetime achievement award of the first Folk Literature and Art Mountain Flower Award.
Since 1979, Mr. Zhong Jingwen has reached a new peak in scientific research and achieved fruitful results. He has published more than ten books and dozens of insightful academic papers, such as New Post, Folklore Culture: Outline and Rise, Folklore Literature and its History, Zhong Jingwen Studies and the Establishment of China Folklore School. These achievements mark the continuous progress of folklore and have great theoretical guiding significance. His thesis "The Myth of Brothers and Sisters Reincarnated in Human Beings after the Flood" won the first prize of outstanding achievements in humanities research in national universities (1995), and "Folk Literature and its History" won the highest honor award of the first Folk Literature and Art Mountain Flower Award for academic works (200 1). In addition, under the leadership of Mr. Zhong Jingwen, the China Institute of Folk Culture of Beijing Normal University has become an important base for the construction of folklore in China. The folklore database of Beijing Normal University and the folklore museum under construction have become the information and data centers of folklore research in China.
The ambitious Mr Zhong Jingwen is not satisfied with his achievements. He once confided in his 95-year-old poem "Poem of Self-longevity", saying that the folk culture he advocated was far from successful. He has been thinking about the development direction of folklore in China. 1999 released a new theoretical book, Establishing China Folklore School, and put forward a new idea of establishing multi-ethnic folklore in a country. The martyrs were full of courage in their later years. In order to deeply study China folk culture with deep historical origins, Mr. Zhong undertook the national key project "Folk History of China" in 2000. The banner of China folklore has been raised, and Mr. Zhong Jingwen eagerly expects China folklore to become a mature national cultural science as soon as possible.
200 1,11On October 22nd, the academic seminar on "Folklore Discipline Construction and Talent Cultivation" initiated by Mr. Zhong Jingwen and undertaken by the Center for Folk Classics and Literatures was grandly opened. Mr. Zhong is very excited. When meeting with representatives from universities and scientific research institutions all over the country, he said: "This is the happiest day since I was hospitalized, and it is also the happiest day for me in 80 years. In the face of the growth of folklore academic team and the development of discipline construction, Zhong Lao has heartfelt joy. He solemnly enjoined folklorists: "Everyone should have national consciousness, regard the Chinese spirit as the lifeblood, and regard the excellent Chinese culture as our lifeblood. "Finally, I encourage everyone:" I hope everyone will work hard, work hard and work hard again! "Folklore is an important subject!" In this way, Mr. Zhong deeply loves his career, and his ideological life is closely related to the national culture of the motherland. On June 3, 2002, at the suggestion of Mr. Wang's old friend, the Chinese Department of Beijing Normal University hosted Mr. Zhong's centenary birthday banquet in Beijing Friendship Hospital. Mr. Zhong said to his colleagues in the academic and press circles who came to celebrate his birthday: I want to keep fit and go back to give lectures. Finally, he tried his best to shout out the voice that often stirred in his heart: "The cause of the people is the greatest cause!" " "
Mr Zhong Jingwen has gone through different periods of the old and new society. His life is a life of pursuing progress and civilization. He shares the same fate with the motherland and the nation. Mr. Zhong Jingwen often says that he is the son of the May 4th Movement, and the May 4th spirit is Mr. Zhong Jingwen's eternal youthful spirit. He often said: "I like a famous saying of Marx: work for mankind." It is with such feelings that Mr. Zhong works tirelessly, with endless life and struggle. In the hospital, he always cares about teaching and scientific research. Instruct the teachers of the teaching and research section to set up the course of folklore history for the new doctoral students on their behalf, and personally help the second-year doctoral students to choose the topic of their doctoral thesis and check the progress of their graduation thesis. Mr. Zhong has always been strict with his students' study. He took turns to meet 18 students in the ward to report their study. Thinking about the major events of discipline construction, he repeatedly inquired about the progress of applying for the national key discipline of folklore in Beijing Normal University, and also negotiated with the publishing house to publish the series History of Ancient Folklore in China. In September, 200 1 year, he wrote an inscription when he wrote the poem "introspection at the age of 100":
After a rugged path and a dangerous beach, I stumbled for a hundred years.
I have been brave enough to rush to the national disaster, and I still love poetry.
Think about how to make up for it in the end, and the vegetarian coarse cloth will be sweet.
You have lost all the achievements of studying art, and you will learn from them.
In Mr. Zhong Jingwen's life, life and study are in harmony. Mr. Zhong's hundred-year journey not only created a miracle of life, but also set an example for us with his love for national culture, persistence in learning and innate kindness. In order to show respect for him, someone praised him with "Guo Rui Wenzong", which is well deserved!
He devoted his life to the research and construction of national culture. Until 100 years old, he was still planning the major events of folklore discipline construction. A few hours before his death, he said, "I have a lot of things to do." Mr. Zhong is such an extraordinary person who regards career and work as his life. He is a pure man, a noble man and a true benevolent. "Poet Zhong Jingwen"
Mr. Zhong Jingwen said many times before his death: "What I am best at is not the academic research of folklore and folk literature and art, but poetry. After my death, I will engrave on my tombstone the tomb of the poet Zhong Jingwen. These words are enough! "
Many people are quite confused about this. Because he has made outstanding achievements in academic research, prose, poetry creation and many other fields, and mainly in folklore, folk literature and art, why does he just summarize and evaluate himself as a "poet"?
In fact, looking at Mr. Zhong's life, we can easily find that his self-evaluation contains two meanings: one is to show his life closely associated with poetry and even literature, and to emphasize his role characteristics in the field of poetry creation. Secondly, in his view, "poet" is not only a symbol of occupation, but also a way of existence and a realm of life. The meaning of this latter layer is probably his main intention of summing up his life as a poet.
Since 1930s, although he focused on folklore and folk literature and art, his love for poetry never stopped. Although prose writing is intermittent, he has been persistent and has written many new excellent works. Moreover, due to years of exploration, the writing style has become more and more profound and comfortable. He never gave up on poetry for a moment. Over the years, he has been reciting the poems of the ancients he has always admired, such as those of Lu Fangweng, Wang Yuyang and Gong Dingan, which are often placed on the bedside and desk. Even during the period of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, during the three or four years when he joined the army with a pen and walked on the battlefield, the only book he carried in his schoolbag was The Complete Works of Lu Fangweng. In the days to come, no matter when he goes out, whether on business trip or in hospital, books are bound to be his personal belongings, and his favorite poems are the protagonists in these books.
Repeatedly reading predecessors' poems is to improve their poetic quality and nourish their spiritual flesh and blood, while persistently writing poems is to record and express their mental journey. From childhood to today, it has become a habit to sing his own voice and sing the times with poetry, which occupies the most important position in his life. Over the years, it has not changed at all, but has become more and more profound. According to statistics, he has written more than 800 poems in more than 80 years, only the old ones. These poems not only express the author's own life experience and mental journey, but also reflect the times and circumstances he experienced. They can be said to be fine works in the literary palace, and they are also valuable historical materials for us to understand him and the times he experienced.
When talking about the influence of poetry on himself, Mr. Zhong once said: "... in my personal spiritual history, she is undoubtedly an extremely important element, even a leading force." Poetry, for many years, she has been pestering my life. " (I and Poetry-An Introduction to Footprints, 1943) In his mind, poetry is his emotional home and spiritual home. How can he be separated from it? Even if it is a little far away occasionally, burning homesickness will force that emotion and spirit to return to their hometown! This inevitable connection with poetry urges Zhong Jingwen to insist on writing with his familiar old-style poetry genre, and at the same time, he is constantly trying and exploring other poetry forms, such as ci and new poetry. It is particularly worth mentioning that since 1980s, with the gradual increase of cultural exchanges between China and Zhao Puchu, a group of poets such as and Linlin began to advocate writing "China Haiku", and Mr. Zhong Jingwen became a member of this team. Because he is familiar with Japanese haiku for a long time, he has a profound understanding of its charm, and wrote similar short poems in 1930s and 1940s. In addition, he has a deep understanding of China's traditional poems, and his works of China haiku are quite interesting and unique. And take the following two songs as examples:
miss
Flowers are blooming,
I missed spring again.
Let's wait until next year
A thousand generations of women history to Kato.
Set foot on the land of China again,
It's like a daughter going back to her mother's house,
Fantastic happiness.
This inseparable connection with poetry also makes writing poetry a natural singing of Zhong Jingwen's mind-it is as natural as the beating of the heart, not an arduous task. This is also the main reason why he was able to create a large number of excellent poems with ease while he was busy with teaching and scientific research. This inevitable connection with poetry also made him put forward many incisive opinions on literary theory, especially poetry theory. And his basic skills in poetry and prose make his academic papers full of unique literary talent.
This inevitable connection with poetry made poetry permeate all aspects of Zhong Jingwen's spiritual world, became his life mentor, enriched his soul and sublimated his life;
Poetry, my best friend all my life, what have you given me? In a word, she exercised my wisdom and opened my thoughts and feelings. She taught me how to look at and respect life. She taught me how to pay attention to and appreciate nature. She taught me love, hate, patience and dreams-she is my logic, my philosophy, and she is my practical sociology and ethics. She made me stand on my own feet and go forward bravely in the difficult life experience. ("I and Poetry-An Introduction to Footprints", 1943)
This also makes the word "poet" have a richer and deeper connotation for him: it not only refers to "people who write poems", but also refers to people with unique life essence. Closely related to it is a philosophy and practice of life, a patriotic feeling of "taking the world as one's duty", a persistent struggle spirit of "knowing what cannot be done", a great character, a tenacious will and a broad mind. These factors are summed up in a sentence that he often takes as his motto, that is, "integrity, diligence and indifference." This is the core of a real poet's quality, and it is also the basis for deciding to create truly excellent and vital poems.
The innate sense of mission of "taking the world as one's own responsibility" has a very long and profound tradition among intellectuals in China. Zhong Jingwen is obviously a faithful successor to this great tradition. In his life, no matter what kind of activities and jobs he is engaged in, his concern for the fate of the country and the interests of the nation has always occupied the primary position in his mind. He actively organized and participated in patriotic activities during the May 4th Movement, started to join the army during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period, and was outspoken during the anti-rightist movement, all of which were direct manifestations of this feeling. In the field of academic research, he has always emphasized the goal of striving for the "prosperity" of national culture, and tried to explore and construct China's own academic system, which is actually the result of patriotism.
"It is said that when the ancient Greek army went out, poets often went ahead. This is the best symbol of the poet's function. " (Poetic Heart, 1942) In Zhong Jingwen's view, a real poet must have a heroic feeling and a persistent and enterprising spirit to achieve a lofty goal. In this way, he asked for a "poet", and at the same time he practiced this request with his practical actions of pursuing truth and unyielding struggle all his life. Although he has encountered numerous setbacks and hardships, he always has no regrets. Even when he was "in his prime", he was still "brave in the three armies." (Cheng) The following two examples may give us some concrete feelings about his spirit. First of all, during the period of1late 1980s and1early 1990s, academic research and activities were once very difficult due to financial problems. Mr. Zhong never gave up. "Even if you pawn your pants, you have to learn!" He expressed his firm determination with such black humorous words.
Secondly, the Chinese Folklore Society, with Mr. Zhong Jingwen as its chairman, needs funds to hold academic meetings and carry out daily work, such as printing publications and sending them to its members. However, there has been a serious shortage of funds for the Institute. One year, in order to hold a national congress, he and other leading members of society kept discussing and made great efforts. At that time, the State Education Commission wanted to select outstanding national teachers, and Mr. Zhong's Beijing Normal University recommended him as one of the candidates. He is 90 years old and still fighting in the front line of teaching. When he didn't pay attention to honor, he suddenly looked excited: "I don't know if it's ok?" If we can win the bonus, we can take it to the meeting! "
Teacher Zhong once said modestly that his qualifications can only be considered above average, and if he has any achievements, he mainly comes from diligence. In our opinion, the first half of this sentence is of course modest, because his qualifications, just learning and remembering, are far from being comparable to ordinary people. The second half of the sentence is an indisputable fact. Diligence is almost a nature of Mr. Zhong, which is manifested in "diligence in legs", "diligence in hands" and "diligence in brains". For example, 1927, when he was in Guangzhou, he heard the news that Mr. Lu Xun came to Yangcheng. Although he and Lu Xun were strangers, he still made an appointment with friends, went to great lengths to find Mr. Lu Xun, had a conversation, and wrote the essay "Remember to find Mr. Lu Xun" that evening. In his life, such examples can be said to be numerous. From studying classical literature hard as a teenager, to actively participating in the collection of ballads and stories, to contributing enthusiastically, to the age of 100, he continued to think and explore various important issues of folklore and folk literature and art, constantly updating his thoughts and putting forward many new ideas. Diligence has become the quality of his life. In the Postscript of Research Collection, Mr. Zhong once commented on his good friend Gu Jiegang: "There are many smart people, but there are always too few achievements. Do you ask why? The reason is judged by hard work and humility! " In fact, he himself is not like this!
"Big things don't matter, small things don't matter." This is what Mr. Zhong often uses to encourage himself and educate his disciples. His so-called great events are the research of folklore and folk literature and art with the main goal of exploring the meaning and essence of national culture, the teaching of cultivating academic reserve talents, and various activities to promote academic development ... For this great event, he will advance despite difficulties. Small things not only refer to the pursuit of fame and fortune, but also include various requirements for personal material life. He never shrugged off the former category of this "little thing"; For the latter category, his indifference often surprises ordinary people: sometimes, he never asks about the funds or material rewards that originally belonged to him but were not given to him because of the negligence of the staff concerned! When someone asked him why he did this inexplicably, his answer was: "With these things, it may not be much better. Without them, you won't starve to death!" /kloc-in the spring of 0/998, he took out the manuscript fee he had just got from the publishing house, rented a car, bought tickets, and organized the teachers and students of the whole teaching and research section to go to Taoranting Park for a spring outing. All the teachers and students in the folk literature teaching and research section experienced the fun of the party in the spring, and once again experienced the care from the mentor Zhong Lao. For several years in a row, this whole-room spring outing has been going on.
"Poet Zhong Jingwen"! This is how he used his life to love, to write poems, and to decorate and sublimate his life with poems.
Since ancient times, no one has died in life, leaving a heart that shines through history. Mr. Zhong is tired, and Mr. Zhong is gone. His voice and smile will remain in the world forever, and his career will last forever.
Mr. Zhong Jingwen, rest in peace!
