Du Fu’s Three Farewells to Officials

Du Fu's "Three Officials and Three Farewells" are "Xin'an Officials", "Shihao Officials", "Tongguan Officials", "Newlywed Farewell", "Wuji Farewell", and "Elderly Farewell".

At the end of the first year of the Qianyuan period of the Tang Dynasty, Du Fu temporarily left Huazhou and went to Luoyang and Yanshi to visit relatives. In March of the following year, the Battle of Yecheng broke out between the Tang army and the Anshi rebels. The Tang army was defeated, and the Anshi rebels took advantage of the situation to advance towards Luoyang. On his way back to Huazhou from Luoyang, Du Fu saw the tense atmosphere of preparations for war, the disasters the war had brought to the people and the people's patriotic behavior. The poet was filled with emotion and composed "Three Officials" and "Three Farewells", which he revised and finalized after returning to Huazhou.

"Three Officials and Three Farewells" profoundly describes the suffering of the people and the loneliness of wandering in troubled times, reveals the great misfortune and hardship brought by the war to the people, and expresses the author's feelings for the people who have been devastated by the war. the sympathy of the common people.

Introduction to Du Fu:

Du Fu (712 AD to 770 AD) was originally from Xiangyang, Hubei Province, and later moved to Gong County, Henan Province. Zi Zimei, who called himself Shaoling Yelao, Du Shaoling, Du Gongbu, etc., was a realist poet who lived during the Anshi Rebellion (the Tang Dynasty turned from prosperity to decline).

Du Fu is respected as the "Sage of Poetry" by the world. His poems generally reflect the changing process of the Tang Dynasty from prosperity to decline, so they are called "History of Poetry". Du Fu and Li Bai are collectively known as "Li Du".
