Emperor Qianlong was the emperor who wrote the most poetry in history. He had more than 100,000 imperial poems, but only about 48,900 Tang poems survived. There were more than 2,200 authors. According to "West Lake Ancient and Modern Stories", Emperor Qianlong visited the south of the Yangtze River six times and made sure to visit the West Lake each time. When Emperor Qianlong went to the south of the Yangtze River for the fourth time to visit the West Lake, it was the middle of winter in the twelfth lunar month. Shen Deqian, the Minister of Rites, took a group of literati to accompany him on the trip. When Qianlong, an emperor who loved reciting poems and inscriptions to show off his elegance, came to the edge of the West Lake, where literati and poets gathered, and rarely encountered the scenery of the snowy lake with heavy snowfall and white sky, of course he had to write a poem about the snow to suit the occasion.
Predecessors had many poems about singing about snow. Emperor Qianlong thought: If they are not well written, they will easily fall into the cliché. He must write new ideas to overwhelm the predecessors, otherwise he will be laughed at by them. He thought for a long time but couldn't come up with an idea. In a moment of anxiety, he chanted to the flying snow in the sky:
One piece after another,
Two pieces, three pieces, four, five Films,
Six films, seven films, eighty-nine films,
I originally wanted to boast that I was elegant, but unexpectedly, after reading three sentences, there was nothing more to say. A group of subordinates and literati were still waiting aside. . Emperor Qianlong was so embarrassed that his face turned red. After listening to the emperor's poem, Shen Deqian secretly laughed in his heart and said: This is also called poetry? Children of several years old can do better than him, but he still shakes his head and pretends. But the emperor lost face, and those who were accompanying him couldn't think of a better life, so he hurriedly knelt down and said to the emperor: "For this fourth sentence, please your Majesty, please reward me!"
Qianlong The emperor was in a dilemma. Shen Deqian gave him a step. He quickly walked down the stairs and said: "Okay, thank you for your love." ?
Shen Deqian kowtowed and thanked him, and then casually chanted: The plum blossoms are gone even after flying in.
The few lines of Emperor Qianlong’s poem turned out to be nonsense, but with Shen Deqian’s final line, it turned out to be a good poem. Emperor Qianlong was very happy and immediately took off his jade pendant and gave it to Shen Deqian.
