Poetry

In the Tang Dynasty, Zhang wrote a well-known poem a night-mooring near maple bridge:

Crows fell on the moon, crowed coldly, slept on maple trees, and slept in fishing lanes by the river.

In the lonely Hanshan Temple outside Suzhou, the bell that rang in the middle of the night reached the passenger ship.

The details of the "midnight bell" in the poem have caused repeated arguments.

When Ouyang Xiu read this poem, he laughed at Zhang Ji and said, "Although the sentence is good, it is like midnight, not when the clock strikes." It means good poetry, that is, not ringing the bell in the middle of the night.

Later, Mr. Lu You, who was earnest and eager to learn, said in Notes of Old Xuegong that Ouyang Xiu was wrong. In the Tang Dynasty, Suzhou really rang the bell at midnight, and Lu You quoted a bunch of poems to prove his point. Finally, he came to the conclusion that the monk temple had its own midnight clock because it was afraid of the Tang Dynasty.

No matter Ouyang Xiu or Lu You, when discussing poetry, they all focus on reality and seriously discuss whether the temple bell rings in the middle of the night. Ji Xiaolan (Ji Yun), who has iron teeth and copper teeth, is even more brilliant in his poems. He mocked Ouyang Xiu and Lu You together. He said, "The midnight bell knocks on the passenger ship from the opposite side" so that you can smell it in the middle of the night and write that you didn't sleep. It means that Zhang Ji wrote "The Bell" just to say that he is still awake.

Mr. Liu Yongji, the master of Wen Xin Diao Long, agrees with Ji Yun very much. He said: "This poem describes the scene of boating on the Maple Bridge for one night. Apart from what you have seen and heard, this poem only reveals your mood with a sad sentence. People who are worried about traveling may not hear the midnight bell. It is ridiculous for future generations to tell whether there is a bell in the middle of the night. "

In fact, the vernacular point of this question is the truth of art and the truth of reality. Art certainly allows the existence of "false truth", just like Wang Wei's painting "Banana in the Snow". Heavy snow is only found in cold areas in the north, and bananas are tropical plants in the south. If we must focus on "how can a banana not die in the heavy snow?" , is very boring. In terms of color alone, the white of snow and the green of bananas are attractive enough.

Wang Wei's Banana in Snow

The same is true of poetry. Xie Zhen's Four-character Poems said: "Any poem should not be realistic, such as looking from a distance, beautiful green hills, hidden and lovely, and its haze is changeable and difficult to describe." And climb uncomplicated wonders, but only a few trees. What you see far and near is different, and beauty is ambiguous, so you can see it. "

If they are all true, then the following famous sentences are all sick sentences. The temples seem too low. "Dark clouds crushed the city and destroyed it, and the golden sun shone on the sun." Rain or shine seemed too fast.

So for poetry, art is more important than intention.
