Modern poetry, also known as new poetry, refers to poetry from the May 4th Movement to before the founding of the People's Republic of China, which first appeared in the vernacular movement 19 17 led by Hu Shi. Modern poetry is free in form, not restricted by traditional metrical requirements, and deeply influenced by western poetry. Its rhythm, form and theme are varied, with high generality, vivid image, strong lyricism and musical harmony.
