Xing Guan Qun Yuan comes from Confucius’ high-level summary of the social role of poetry. It is a profound understanding of the aesthetic role and social educational role of poetry, and created the source of the history of Chinese literary criticism.

"Xing": Kong Anguo Note: "Xing, draws examples and connects them." Zhu Xi noted: "Inspire will." That is to say, poetry uses the method of Xing to express emotions, arouse readers' emotions, and thus affect the readers' will;
"Viewing" ": Zheng Xuan's note: "Observe the rise and fall of customs." Zhu Xi's note: "Examination of gains and losses" means that poetry reflects the real life of society, so poetry can help readers understand the rise and fall of customs and the political gains and losses;
"Group": Kong Anguo's note: "Living in groups, we learn from each other." Zhu Xi's note: "Harmonious but not flowing." That is to say, poetry can help people communicate with each other, learn from each other, and improve their cultivation;
"Resentment": Kong Anguo's note: "Resentment hurts politics." Bian means that poetry can criticize and accuse those in power for their political failures and express resentment against harsh government.
