What are the characteristics of Qu Yuan's works?
Qu Yuan (about 339~ 278 BC), Ziping, was a statesman of Chu in the Warring States Period and a great patriotic poet. He was born in a noble family of Chu, and was once a left disciple and doctor of Chu, presiding over Chu politics. He was slandered by his young disciple Lan and later left his post. When Qu Yuan was exiled, he was like the king of Chu. Later, because the capital of Chu was attacked by the pool, he died in the Miluo River. Qu Yuan created a poet's main image with distinct personality for the first time in the history of China's poetry, expressing the poet's strong emotion and ideology, thus opening the prelude to the era of China's literary consciousness. From him, China's poetry entered a new era from collective singing to individual originality. At the same time, he absorbed the form of Chu Ci and created a poetic style of "Chu Ci" with flexible syntax and diverse structure. This poetic style, with its beautiful language, rich imagination and blending with myths and legends, has created vivid images and greatly enriched the expressive force of poetry, thus opening up a romantic new world for China's ancient poetry creation. Therefore, later generations called The Book of Songs and Songs of the South together as "coquettish". His representative works include Li Sao, Nine Chapters and Nine Songs.
