Screenwriter and director of "South of the Clouds" in 2002, won the 54th Berlin Film Festival The "Asian Film Promotion Network" award-winning Berlin film "South of the Clouds"
At the Berlin Film Festival, "South of the Clouds" directed by emerging director Zhu Wen won the "N ETPAC" award in the non-competition section. Talking about this trip to Berlin yesterday, Zhu Wen, a writer by training, replied in a low-key manner, "I have no thoughts at all. This is just a game. In fact, winning the award is nothing."
This time the award-winning " The story of "South of the Clouds" is full of artistic color. Zhu Wen believes that the pursuit of artistic films and commercial films are different. "Although art films are niche, it does not mean that they are not commercial. For example, Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation" is a good example. And The definition of commercial films definitely does not refer to films with good box office. In foreign countries, art films have their own fixed market, but this condition is not available in China. Therefore, it is difficult for us to clearly distinguish between the two. It is true that art films are not having a good time in China, and to reach the level of foreign films, many people need to work together." What makes Zhu Wen happy is that "South of the Clouds" has been approved by the Film Bureau and will be released soon. When it is released, he hopes that everyone can go into the cinema and experience the charm of art films.
"South of the Clouds" is Zhu Wen's second film. He boldly used a DV digital camera to shoot it. The previous film debut "Seafood" also adopted this method and won the "Special Jury Award" at the 58th Venice International Film Festival. "Maybe some people will say that I came up with this because I didn't have enough funds, but I was just shooting the film according to my own ideas." Zhu Wen said confidently, "DV shooting will definitely become popular." As for the next step As for the next step of planning, Zhu Wen said that he still needs to take a break for the time being, because he is a relatively rigorous person and usually needs to think carefully before doing anything.
Talk about movies
"South of the Clouds" was jointly produced by Beijing Century Hero Company and Beijing Jin Feilin Culture and Art Co., Ltd. It is one of the series of films by Century Hero to support young directors. It tells the story It tells the various experiences of several young people in Yunnan in the 1960s. In just one hour, Zhu Wen showed his wit, sensitivity and cooperative smile, leaving a wonderful impression on us. Then he disappeared. I suddenly had some doubts: Do all directors who were born in the 1960s and 1970s want to leave such an impression on people, that is, they have an infinite understanding of life and an analysis of experience with a sense of moderate pride. , with personal traces of human dignity? They silently moved people of a certain generation, and possibly most people in the future.
Wu Hongfei: Can you talk about your new movie first? How is the progress so far? Did you encounter any difficulties?
Zhu Wen: The new movie is still unknown. The film "My Brother, My Sister" that I originally wanted to film was shelved because it could not pass the censorship. Speaking of which, it was only a year or two ago, and my movements were very slow. The movie in preparation is not yet suitable to talk about. I will wait for this third movie with the utmost patience. Wu Hongfei: Can you talk about your three films? Is there any context to follow?
Zhu Wen: I never like to talk about my own works, whether they are novels or movies. What's more, we're talking about works you haven't even seen. Now I am forced to become a "somewhat mysterious" director. I have heard about it, but I have never seen it. I'm not too disgusted with this situation. They are certainly different, and I hope they are very different. "Seafood" examines a question of good and evil, involving sex, violence, and politics. "South of the Clouds" focuses on the issues of time and space, and talks about an impossible life, in which there is also sex and politics. But no matter how different they are, there must be the thread you mentioned. Leave this work to others. Wu Hongfei: Let’s talk about your “Dama’s Tone”, your upcoming new book.
Zhu Wen: This is an anthology of short stories. It is the first time that my works have been published in a collection of short stories. Although they are all old works, I still hope to bring you some new ideas. In recent years, many readers, including some domestic and foreign researchers, have complained that my books are not available in the market. I bear some responsibility for this. My idea is that I want to forget them and start a new life (laughs). This is a little too naive. Most of the editions of the books I published before were very ugly. Occasionally when I encountered them in a bookstore, I would walk around them, which hurt my heart. The planner of this book is my friend Chu Chen. He gave me more than two hundred new books, allowing me to see the progress of domestic printing technology in recent years. This greatly increased my confidence in reprinting.
Wu Hongfei: Is writing a simple thing for you? You said, "Just like the sprouting and blooming of a plant, it is a very natural thing." Why write? How did you get into writing? What is your literary passion? Why do you have a poetry complex (your poems are very good)? And where does the sense of emptiness in the novel come from? Have your attitudes toward poetry, novels, and movies changed?
Zhu Wen: I said something similar. As far as I am concerned, "writing" happens quietly, just like a bush of vigorous weeds suddenly growing up in the yard after a thunderstorm in summer. It's two different things than lawn. Now it seems that the so-called "taking on the path of writing" is mixed with the turmoil of youth and the urge to find a free life, to be rebellious, rebellious, and not want to follow the rules. The action aspect is very strong, followed by the "literary aspect". I have never accepted the professional nature of "writing", and this is still the same when making movies. Why write? Just play. To be honest, my concept of writing is very outdated. I always believe that writing is related to the heart and inner struggle. I appreciate many kinds of writing, but when it comes to myself, I will only choose this one.
I have no literary or poetic complex. Where does the sense of emptiness in the novel come from? It comes from life, from my head, from some indescribable nook and cranny.
