There are many stratigraphic sequences in Tangshan, and Archean and Proterozoic are mainly exposed in the northern mountainous areas. Cambrian and Ordovician are mainly distributed in the two wings of Kaiping syncline; Most of Carboniferous and Permian are hidden in the southern plain. A small amount of Jurassic outcropped in Lianhuayuan and Guantoushan areas of Gan 'an County. The Tertiary was discovered in Xinzhuang-Yinzhuang area south of Qianxi County and buried deep in the south of Xugezhuang-Changning line in Luannan County, Fengnan District. Quaternary system is extremely developed, and its distribution area accounts for about 3/5 of the total area of the city, forming a broad piedmont inclined plain.
Geologically, the jurisdiction is located at the junction of the southern edge of the eastern section of Yanshan skirt fold belt of China-Korea paraplatform and Huanghua Depression of North China Depression. From the viewpoint of geomechanics, it belongs to the intersection of banded structural system, Neocathaysian structural system and the reflex arc of the east wing of Qilu-Heshan structure, and its structural state is quite complicated.
Yanshan movement shaped the main structure skeleton of the jurisdiction. After experiencing the strong structural differentiation of Himalayan movement, the inheritance in the north has been strengthened and the inheritance in the south has been weakened since the Late Tertiary. While the difference between north and south rises and falls, there are many Cenozoic faults in the whole region, and most of them are high-angle normal faults in the coverage area.
For example, the relatively stable Hugezhuang fault in the Early Tertiary, the Hanjiazhuang South fault inherited in the Late Tertiary and Quaternary, and the Hanjiazhuang-Shaheyi fault and Douhe fault in the Quaternary.
