Gu Yunpu, 83, was awarded the lermontov Medal by the Russian Writers Association in recognition of his contribution to Russian language and literature.
The "lermontov Medal" was designed by the Russian Writers Association to commemorate the 200th anniversary of lermontov's birth. Gu Yunpu deserves this honor: for 52 years, he insisted on translating lermontov's works, and has completed more than 460 translations.
"I have two complexes in my life: one is Russian complex, and the other is lermontov complex," he said.
Gu Yunpu was born in Wuxi, a famous city in the south of the Yangtze River. 1955 was admitted to the Russian Department of Peking University as his first choice. In his spare time, he actively reads a lot of original Russian literature, listens to various lectures, visits top foreign language experts in the school, and absorbs all kinds of new knowledge like a sponge.
After graduating from college, Gu Yunpu stayed on as a teacher and read and translated Russian poetry after work. Since then, he has been fascinated by lermontov's works. He believes that without creative impulse, there would be no original literature. Similarly, without the translator's impulse to recreate, it is impossible to produce a good translation. "I gradually became lermontov in translation, and lermontov gradually became myself."
"Touching people, don't worry about feelings first", a really good poem should be a song from the heart. However, the good poems translated by Gu Yunpu encountered many troubles in the publishing process. In the early 1960s, he sent the translation of lermontov's 100 lyric poems to a publishing house, but there was no news. It was not until 18 that the manuscript of this poem was retrieved.
On this basis, he revised it carefully and repeatedly. First of all, he published five of them in the magazine Soviet Literature, which was well received by readers. Since then, various versions of Selected Poems of lermontov, Selected Works of lermontov and China's first Complete Works of lermontov have been under his translation or editor-in-chief. In 2002, he wrote and published China's first monograph on lermontov.
On the basis of introducing lermontov, Gu Yunpu continuously expanded the translation and research of Russian poetry: from Pushkin, Ye Saining, Pasternak and Bunin to various schools in the Silver Age and the Soviet Union, it was welcomed by Chinese, Russian and Soviet literary circles.
From 65438 to 0998, Gu Yunpu won the first Lu Xun Literature Award of Chinese Writers Association for his translation of The Complete Works of lermontov Lyrics Ⅱ, the Gorky Award of Russian Writers Association for his contribution to Russian literature research and translation in 2006, and the Senior Translator Certificate of China Translators Association for his translation achievements in 2007.
In his eighties, he still insists on writing. "Dig ten shallow wells, it is better to dig a deep well. I have found my own way, and I will unswervingly go on, constantly sublimate and constantly improve. " Gu Yunpu said.
