The original poem is as follows:

I am your shabby old waterwheel by the river, spinning tired songs for hundreds of years;

When you grope in the tunnel of history, I am a miner's lamp with black forehead;

I am the withered ear of rice, the disrepair roadbed;

This is a barge on the mudflat, pull the rope deep into your shoulder,

-the motherland! I'm poor and I'm sad.

I am the painful hope of your ancestors,

It is a flower that never falls to the ground for thousands of years.

-the motherland! I am your brand-new ideal,

Just broke free from the spider web of myth; I am the germ of your ancient lotus under the snow;

I am your laughing vortex with tears hanging; I am the newly painted white starting line;

It is the crimson dawn, in generate;

——? Motherland! I am one billionth of you, the sum of your 9.6 million square meters;

You feed it with scarred breasts,

Lost me, considerate me, boiling me;

Then take it out of my flesh,

Your richness, your glory, your freedom;

——? Motherland, my dear motherland!

Creative background: The author Shu Ting grew up in the turmoil of China's ten-year catastrophe. After graduating from junior high school, she jumped the queue in the countryside and became a worker. In the chaotic era when the country was in chaos and the people were trapped, Shu Ting, who had a hard time, could imagine her inner confusion and pain. 1978 12. China ushered in the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee, which is of great historical significance and opened a new historical period of reform and opening up. 1April, 979, the poet wrote this poem in his own unique lyrical way in the face of the situation that the motherland was free from suffering and eager to fly.

Poetry reached its climax from the beginning, which is Shu Ting's consistent technique. The first two clauses of the first section are balanced sentences, which contain descriptions of sounds and colors. Three or four sentences are shortened and not depicted; The five sentences are long, the lines are short and tight, and the intensity exceeds the previous four sentences, so the subject (motherland) appears.

In the second quarter, direct dialogue is started without adjectives. Three or four sentences summarize the front, and then the theme appears. Hope for a better life in the future. Among them, "a flower that never falls to the ground for a thousand years" means that the good hopes of ancestors have repeatedly failed.

The third section is to write about the future ("the new white starting line"), and also use the present tense, which is more concrete and realistic, connecting the preceding with the following, and the pain rises to hope, so the subject appears again. It symbolizes that China is getting rid of the shackles, thriving and writing about the bright future of the motherland. The poet's feelings reached a climax, and his strong feelings turned into a magnificent oath to the motherland. His strong sense of national responsibility, mission and lofty dedication sublimated his poetic thoughts.

In the last section, the poet expressed his desire for loyalty and dedication to the motherland. The two images of "I am one billionth of you" and "the sum of your 9.6 million square kilometers" describe that "I" and the motherland are integrated and inseparable from the perspective of population and territory. In the poem, I am no longer a grass or a seedling of a pine tree.
