Overview of Qiling Tower

In the first year of Renshou (601) of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty, the Qiling Pagoda was built in Daming Temple. The nine-story pagoda is located in Shugang. The bones of Buddha are enshrined in the pagoda, so it is said that the Buddha is here. It is said that the soul of the monk Dajue was burned, so it is called the "Ling Qing Pagoda". During the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Yangzhou's political and economic development was rapid. After the An-Shi Rebellion, it became the largest metropolis in the country, with prosperity surpassing the two capitals of Chang'an and Luoyang. It was known as "Yang Yi Yi Er" in history. Famous poets of the Tang Dynasty, including Li Bai, Gao Shi, Liu Changqing, Liu Yuxi, and Bai Juyi, all visited Qiling Pagoda to write poems in praise of it. After the great poet Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty climbed the pagoda, he once praised in his poem: "The pagoda towers over the sky, and you can climb up to see the four wildernesses." He praised the majestic pagoda. Poets Bai Juyi and Liu Yuxi also wrote poems describing the pagoda after climbing it. Bai Juyi wrote a poem: "The half-moon is soaring in Guangling, no matter what tower or tower, there is no difference. The emperor's strength is particularly strong, and he can climb to the ninth floor of Qiling."

Liu Yuxi wrote in his poem: "It is not difficult to carry each other step by step, leaning against the railing outside the nine-layer cloud. Suddenly, laughter reaches the sky, and countless tourists raise their eyes to see it." Unfortunately, in the third year of Huichang (843), Emperor Wuzong of the Tang Dynasty, a generation of historic sites were reduced to scorched earth. Visitors throughout the ages have been disappointed.
