The English Department of the School of Foreign Languages of Chongqing University began with the Foreign Languages Department of the College of Literature of Chongqing University, which was established in 1932. At the beginning of its establishment, the department hired a large number of well-known scholars at home and abroad, such as Professor Wu Mi, a western writer and expert in redology, Professor Zhu Wenzhen, an expert in Shakespeare studies, and Professor Zhou Kaocheng, an expert in English phonetics, to teach in the department. 1952 after the adjustment of the department, the teachers of the foreign language department were transferred to the foreign language teaching and research section. Professor Mao, the current head of the department, is the first professor in the field of humanities and social sciences in Chongqing University to be awarded the "Outstanding Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education in the New Century". The English Department has a strong faculty, with 24 teachers, including experts and professors who are influential in the national academic circles, young doctors who have recently graduated from famous universities at home and abroad, and young and middle-aged teachers who have worked in the English Department for many years.
