What is Wei-Jin literature?
Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties is the beginning of the first paragraph of China's medieval literature, which is marked by the prosperity of five-character ancient and modern poems. During the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, great changes took place in China literature, and literary theory and criticism flourished. During this period, people's awakening and literary consciousness developed greatly, and literary creation was personalized and collectivized. It is another period of liberation and prosperity of thought and literature since the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. "During this period, the imperial court played a central role and formed a literary group centered on the imperial court. The convergence within the group makes literature present a group style in this period and another style in another period, which makes the stages of literature development quite obvious. Literary theories and works in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties are rich in works and distinctive in personality. Poetics has got rid of the shackles of Confucian classics, and the direction of the whole literary trend of thought is to get rid of the need of political enlightenment emphasized by Confucianism and find the meaning of independent existence of literature. A remarkable feature of literary creation in this period is that the demand for serving political enlightenment has weakened, and literature has become a personal behavior, expressing personal life experiences and feelings. Literary aesthetics tends to emphasize image, style and verve, poetry seeks meaning, pleasure seeks meaning, and painting seeks interest beyond image. This conscious aesthetic pursuit of communication among various literary forms marks the arrival of a new literary era.
