What is the basis for priests not being able to get married?

1. Currently Roman Catholic priests are not allowed to get married.

2. To this day, Eastern Rite Catholic priests can still marry. Eastern Rite refers to Catholicism in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Russia, Egypt and other places. If the church here is not in harmony with the Pope, it is called an "Orthodox Church". If it is in harmony with the Pope, it is an "Oriental Rite" church.

3. Roman Catholic priests are currently not allowed to get married (they must be celibate), but this is only a tradition for the past thousand years. About a thousand years ago, Roman Catholic priests still did not practice celibacy.

4. Being a priest while observing celibacy is only a tradition of the Roman Catholic Church and has no necessary connection with the Bible and theology. So it would not be surprising if even Roman rite priests could get married in the future.
