Interludes in online classes

Four Seasons Good Morning Writing Camp Day16

"Reading ancient poems and telling stories" is the learning content of the recent online courses. The final course designed a "reading stories and writing stories" reading The writing activity is to expand your imagination, combine your own understanding of poetry and creative background, and make reasonable creations without changing the theme. As soon as the learning task was assigned, "Our teacher said it before" appeared in the message area. I originally wanted students to think about the creative perspective first, but the words in the message area still caught my attention. The students in our school are all directly admitted to the middle school of our school. If it is really what they have learned, then the teaching rhythm must be adjusted. The starting point of teaching should be determined based on the students' existing cognition. "Classmate Gao, can you share with everyone the original teacher's creation method?" I asked the classmate Ma Gao who left a message. "I, um, the teacher said it before, let me think about it." "Okay, think about it and share it with everyone." The cyberspace fell silent for more than ten seconds. There was no sound from the other side, and the air seemed to solidify. "If other students have ideas, they can write them down in the message area." I did not want to leave time blank, and also wanted to buffer Ma Gao from the tension of thinking, so I gave this suggestion to all the students. The advantage of online teaching is that there is a message area, and students do not have to ask questions to have the opportunity to express their opinions. There was still silence on the other side, "Ma Gao, are you online?" I asked, Ma Gao's small green speaker flashed, and I knew he was there, "I, I kind of forgot, the teacher said it anyway." Maybe it was because I was waiting. It took a while, but he finally spoke. "Okay, let's take a look at the students' ideas in the message area, and see if we can get some inspiration." While waiting, there were already dozens of messages in the message area. After a quick browse, I found that my classmates did have ideas about poetry expansion. “Adding characters” “can supplement the plot” and “can fill in the blank spaces in the poem”… Students transfer their narrative writing experience to poetic imagination and summarize the methods of creating stories.

? The content of the message area is the students’ basic understanding of creating stories, and this is exactly what helped me find the starting point for the class. Although Ma Gao did not mention the methods he had learned before, because of him, the class provided students with the opportunity to think. After class, I reflected on the teaching design before class and the teaching effect of the actual teaching, and came to the following two understandings:

1. Classroom is not about what we tell students, but what we want to do. What to inspire students to think about.

2. I can’t tell what students know about what is taught in class; I can’t tell what students can tell themselves; and I can’t tell what students have learned through their own seminars.
