Oppose imitation of antiquity and pretence, and advocate expressing the spirit and depicting the temperament, emphasizing truth, liveliness and novelty. It is believed that since the "3 pieces" to this day, all the people who spread poems are spiritual, regardless of stacking and writing temperament, but I am suitable.
I am dissatisfied with Shen Deqian's mode theory, Weng Fanggang's texture theory and Wang Shizhen's verve theory. This book is a monograph on poetry with high academic value after The Original Poem, which was highly valued in the poetry circle at that time. After being printed in a rigid way, it was very popular.

Creative background
Yuan Mei lived in the so-called prosperous period, with active academic thoughts, fierce struggles between advocating Neo-Confucianism and opposing Neo-Confucianism, emphasizing Sinology and opposing Sinology, and Yuan Mei firmly stood on the position of opposing Neo-Confucianism and Sinology; Corresponding to the struggle in academic thought, the struggle between restoring ancient ways and repeating ancient ways in literature and art, re-education and subjective spirit has never stopped.
Yuan Mei is an outstanding representative in Qianlong's poetry circle who has repeatedly turned to the ancient and the subjective spirit. In fact, advocacy has existed since ancient times. The earliest source of the word "soul" is Liu Xie's Wen Xin Diao Long, and Zhong Rong's Poems, poets in Tang and Song Dynasties and even the police school in Ming Dynasty have all discussed the theory of soul. Yuan Mei not only absorbed the nutrition of the ancient spiritual theory, but also made his own inventions, and finally formed a relatively complete poetic theory of spiritual theory.
