Mirabeau Bridge

Apollinaire (1880-1918)

Below the Pont Mirabeau

Slow flows the Seine

And all our loves together

Must I recall again

Joy would always follow

After pain

Hands holding hands

Let us stand face to face

While underneath the bridge

Of our arms entwined slow race

Eternal gazes flowing

At wave's pace

Let night fall, let the hours go by

The days pass on and here I stand

Love runs away

Like running water flows

Love flows away

But oh how slow life goes

How violent is hope

Love only knows

Let night fall, let the hours go by

The days pass on and here stand I

The days flow ever on

The weeks pass by in vain

Time never will return

Nor our loves burn again

Below the Pont Mirabeau

Slow flows the Seine

Let night fall, let the hours go by

The days pass on and here I stand

Translation:

p>

The rolling flow of the Seine under the Mirabeau Bridge

Our love is gone and there is no turning back

It’s hard to look back again

For the sake of happiness, we always I have endured all the hardship

The bells are ringing as night falls

Time has passed and I am left alone

We face each other and hold hands

< p>The eternal gaze

Under the bridge of our arms

Disappearing at the end with ripples of exhaustion

The bell sounds long as night falls

Time has passed but I am left alone

Love rolls away like a surging river

Never look back

Time is so slow

Hope is strong and hard to hold on to

Night falls and the bells ring slowly

Time has passed but I am left alone

Day after day, week after week

The years roll by

Love is over

It’s like the water of the Seine never looks back

The bells ring as night falls

Time has passed, but I am alone

It is said that there are 35 bridges on the Seine River flowing through urban Paris. The bridges and the river complement each other, forming a beautiful scenery on the Seine River. The Innes Bridge next to the Palace of Chaillot was built to commemorate the Franco-Prussian War. The eagle statues and cavalry statues on the bridge are the work of the sculptor Ballier; the Concorde Bridge with the same name as the Place de la Concorde is majestic and was built in 1791. In 2006, it was designed by engineer Behannay. The building stones of the bridge were taken from the Bastille, which means "the people can continue to despise the old castle"; the Pont des Arts, located next to the Louvre, is a steel frame structure paved with wooden boards. The reason why the pedestrian bridge is named "Art" is said to be related to Napoleon's change of the Louvre into an "Art Museum"; the Royal Bridge is one of the historic stone bridges in Paris. It is in the shape of an exaggerated donkey's back and was completed in 1698. Fully funded by King Louis XIII, the Royal Bridge is named after it; the Pont Marie is named after the design of this bridge, which is arched and decorated with niches near the piers. Through this bridge, you can reach Saint-Louis Island; the Mirabeau Bridge is a representative metal building at the end of the 19th century. The bridge became famous because the French poet Apollie lamented the passage of time and wrote a poem titled "The Mirabeau Bridge". And was recorded in the history of world literature.
