Tagore's Notes on Bird Translation No.1 14

Translator of Birds: Shi Shui Mountain Master (Swordsman Scholar)

14

The mystery of creation is like the darkness of night-it is great.

The illusion of knowledge is like the fog in the morning.

The mystery of nature is like the splendor of night.

The illusion of style is as ethereal as the morning mist.

I translated Birds for the first time because I was amused by Mr. Feng Tang's translation, so I chose several translations that I thought were better. Later, with the encouragement of my friends, I translated the full text from the beginning, and I felt suddenly enlightened when I translated it into the poem 14, so my translation notes began to be written from this poem.

The translation of the first edition is:

The mystery of creation is as great as night.

The illusion of things is like a misty morning mist.

Creation is translated into creation, which is a bit ordinary. In this poem, it should be the creation of nature, so it is translated into creation. There are also many poems about the relationship between man and nature in Birds. The creative significance of Su Shi's "Qian Chi Bi Fu" is extremely wonderful;

Between heaven and earth, everything has its own master. If it's not mine, it's a dime. However, the breeze on the river and the bright moon in the mountains are audible to the ears and visible to the eyes. Inexhaustible, inexhaustible. That's the creator's endless hiding place. My son and I are in the right place.

Knowledge is translated into knowledge, and the purpose of translation into physical objects is to correspond to physical objects. Book of Rites University: Be sincere and let them know first; Knowledge exists in things. The content is known, and the knowledge is sincere. For the purpose of research, Tai Shigong reported Ren Anshu: When studying heaven and man, we can learn from the changes of ancient and modern times and become a family statement. There are eight items in The Book of Rites: discipline, knowledge, honesty, honesty, self-cultivation, keeping the family in order, governing the country and leveling the world. Starting from the starting point, gradually expanding, the inner sage and the outer king can enter and retreat, reaching the realm mentioned wholeheartedly in Mencius: if you are poor, you will be immune to it, and if you are up to it, you will help the world. People can accept new knowledge, and they can also learn by themselves or by themselves. It is better to teach people to fish than to teach them to fish. Fish is the conclusion, and fishing is the method. There is a saying in the Diamond Sutra: I heard that it is a classic today, and it is difficult to understand the lack of support. Trust and reconciliation are two levels. If you believe but don't understand, you will be easily shaken if you encounter setbacks in the process of acceptance. In the words popular on the Internet these days, is what I have learned true?

The translation of Creation and Objects, such as Cracking Sound, opened a door for me and convinced me that I could find another way to translate birds, which was different from Mr. Zheng Zhenduo and twenty other translators. At that time, I thought that there was no room for revision in the translation of this poem.

Later, I felt that the translation of Xuanji was not good enough, so I changed it to Xuanji. Laozi's Tao Te Ching I: Mystery is mystery, the door to all miracles. Great became great. Delusion chooses between illusion and falsehood, the latter is misty morning fog, illusion is more appropriate, and finally it is defined as illusion. I also think that creation is unnatural. Du Fu's "Looking at Yue": The creator has endowed all mysterious natural grace here, but? A day immediately enters dawn and dusk .. Li Yating of Capital Normal University suggested changing "Wu Ge" to "Gezhi", which is closer to the meaning of knowledge. Then it becomes:

The mystery of nature is like the splendor of night.

The illusion of style is as ethereal as the morning mist.

The meaning of this poem coincides with Zhuangzi's The Way to Keep Healthy: My life is limited, but my knowledge is also limited. With restrictions, there is no restriction, and it is almost there! It also coincides with the "agnosticism" in philosophy, which is not despair, but humility. At the same time, there is a belief that it can't be done, such as Sisyphus pushing a stone up the mountain, which is endless. Bird 85 says that artists are lovers of nature, and so are scientists.

The artist is the lover of nature, so he is her slave and her master.

The artist is the lover of nature, so he is both the servant and the master of nature.

"Birds 3" says that the universe is not heartless, and sincere people will be cared for and get a glimpse of their true colors:

The world puts off its mask of vastness to its lover.

It becomes small as one song, as one kiss of the eternal.

The universe unveiled its boundless veil to its lover and became as slender as a song, as long as it kissed.
