Appreciation of Song of Spring

The valley is green and the sky is blue.

Sayuri in the valley has blossomed,

There is a piece of primrose in the middle;

Grassland in the valley,

Colorful and charming,

It's more beautiful every day.

People who like May, come on,

Enjoy the love of this wonderful world.

God's grace,

It created this land,

Become very beautiful,

Trees and flowers were also created.

Holti is one of the outstanding poets in German Gottingen and Lin Yuan School (composed of important figures such as Miller and Fowles), and also one of the earliest poets in Germany who wrote narrative ballads. Unfortunately, he suffered from illness all his life and died of lung disease at the age of 28.

This sincere and talented poet has an elegant and graceful poetic style. The early works tended to be "Anacreon style", but they were quickly influenced by English poetry and their styles changed. Some of his works highlight his sympathy for the people, especially the peasants, and his hatred of tyranny. Some poems are full of the joy of life, simple and full of feelings, with the flavor of folk songs. Song of Spring represents his style. This poem was transcribed in A Brief History of German Literature published by the German Democratic Republic 1983, saying: "This folk style endows Lin Yuan's lyric poetry with eternity, and only Claudius can compete with it."

Song of Spring is divided into two sections. In the first poem, the poet painted a colorful, fresh and beautiful picture of nature for us. From endless valleys, grasslands and sky to petite lilies of the valley and primroses, white lilies of the valley and gorgeous primroses are dotted with lush grasslands and blue sky. The whole world is colorful, as if we saw a fragrant and pleasant watercolor painting. This reminds us of Wang Wei's wonderful realm of "painting in poetry" Fresh and refined sentences, in a few words, evoke readers' yearning for nature. Song of Spring seems to have brought us into the beautiful valley of Europe. When we close our eyes, we can feel the fragrant breeze in nature ... At the second poetry festival, the poet called on everyone to enter nature in time and enjoy this beautiful world and a beautiful life. Here, we also see the influence of the Christian doctrine of "love" on poets. God's gift and love are the source of the earth's beauty and natural prosperity. It "creates trees and flowers" with a hint of religion, which is different from the implication of explaining Buddhism's otherness through nature in China's ancient poems.

Song of Spring actively praises the delicate and pleasant nature and a happy and beautiful life. The poet brings us the pure breath of nature and breeds a warm and peaceful atmosphere. If you listen to Mendelssohn's Song of Spring while reading, it is really a multiple enjoyment of the senses.
