The origin of four-character poems;

It can be traced back to the pre-Qin period, that is, the Yin and Shang Dynasties. During the Yin and Shang Dynasties, some short sentences in Oracle Bone Inscriptions and Jinwen were mainly four words. These short sentences record some sacrifices, wars, Oracle Bone Inscriptions and so on, which are regarded as the embryonic form of four-character poems. Later, in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, four-character poetry gradually developed and became one of the most popular forms of poetry at that time. Most poems in The Book of Songs are based on four words.

In the Tang Dynasty, four-character poems were widely used and developed, and became one of the classics of China's classical poems. It can be said that the origin of four-character poems can be traced back to the Shang Dynasty, and after the development in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the classic four-character poems were finally formed in the Tang Dynasty.
