Literary Appreciation
1. What is classic literature? Classics are antiques in the literary world. They are novels, plays and poems that were written a long time ago and are so well written that people still read them now. They are examples of great writing and wisdom, and even those written hundreds of years ago can still be found in bookstores and libraries today.
2. Because many classics were written so long ago, their linguistic features are different from modern works. This makes reading difficult for some people, so they often collect dust on bookshelves. Many people don't read them because they think clssics are old and boring and have nothing to do with today's life.
3. However, if this is true, why do we find these classics in bookstores and libraries? They have not disappeared and are still somewhere in the world. Why are many film adaptations successful? In 1995, the award-winning film based on Jane Austen's novel Emma came out. Three years later, in 1998, a modern adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel appeared in cinemas with great expectations. No one would bother making movie adaptations of these classic novels if they didn't have any relevance to contemporary life.
