"Biography of the Poet Petofi Sandor"

Hungarian patriotic poet. Born in a poor peasant family, his father is a butcher and his mother is a peasant woman. He has lived a life of embarrassment and poverty since he was a child. After he dropped out of school at the age of fifteen, he went out to make a living alone. He served as a soldier for two years and joined a troupe of wandering artists. This special experience made him see the injustice of society clearly. He sympathized with the working people and hated the ruling class. He began to compose poetry in 1838. He used Hungarian folk song style and refined people's language to praise nature and working people, which is rich in folk life. In 1844, he left his hometown and came to the capital Budapest, where he wrote a long poem "The Sledgehammer in the Countryside" and folk stories. The poem "Brave John" expresses his desire for freedom. Starting from the spring of 1846, he actively participated in revolutionary activities and began to organize Hungary's first writers group "Young Hungary". The poems of this period are full of revolutionary enthusiasm for fighting and praise for the coming revolutionary storm. In the late 1940s, the Hungarian revolutionary movement gradually unfolded, and the poet stood on the side of the revolution and opposed the Austrian colonial policy. On March 15, 1848, Petofi led the Pest workers and students to revolt. His political lyric "Song of the Nation" became the declaration of the uprising. However, the Austrian invaders suppressed the Hungarian revolution. On July 31, 1849 On that day, the poet died heroically on the battlefield at the age of 26. Petofi's long poems, political lyric poems, and short lyric poems are all simple and healthy, close to the folk creative style, and played a great role in the formation of the Hungarian national language and the development of Hungarian national literature.
