The Origin and History of Mount Putuo

Putuo Mountain, formerly known as Meicen Mountain, was named after Meifu's monasticism here in the late Western Han Dynasty. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Mount Putuo and its nearby islands were called "Yongdong". South of Shandong is adjacent to a smaller island, which hangs in the sea and is called Luojiashan. Therefore, Putuo Mountain is often called Putuo Luojia Mountain. The Ming Dynasty imposed a maritime ban, and the Baotuo Kannonji in Putuo Mountain was destroyed. Later, it was given by Qin as "Putuo Temple to protect the country and live forever", and the mountain was named after the temple, which was the beginning of Putuo Mountain's name.

There are many scenic spots that can be visited in the scenic area, among which the famous ones are:

Zizhulin scenic spot

Go to Putuo Mountain and you can see Zizhulin, a scenic spot with historical allusions. Phyllostachys pubescens is located at the foot of Meitanling in the southeast of Putuo Mountain in Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province. The rocks in the mountains are purple-red, and there are cypress leaves and bamboo leaves on the cross section, so it is called purple bamboo stone. In the second year of Zhen Ming in the Five Dynasties, Hua Hui, a Japanese monk, asked Wutai Mountain for a Guanyin statue. On the way back home, I was blocked by the wind, so I built a "No Access to Kannonji" in Zizhulin. There is a tidal cave in front of Guanyin. There is Mingchi beside Zizhulin, Guanyin in the south and Luojiashan Island on the other side.

Fayusi

When you go to Mount Putuo, you can visit Fayu Temple, which is a special scenic spot. The Kowloon Hall in the temple is known as one of the three treasures of Putuo. Fayu Temple is the second largest temple in the whole mountain, also known as Housi Temple, which is located under the peak of Guangxi at the northern end of Qianbusha. The glazed tiles at the top of the Kowloon algae well and the Kowloon Hall (also known as Tongyuan Hall) in the temple were removed from the Nanjing Ming Palace, which is known as one of the three treasures of Putuo Mountain and unique in China. It's rare that the Nine Dragon Wall opposite Tianwang Temple of Fayu Temple is chiseled with blue stone carvings, but there is no gap.

Baibusha

Don't miss a hundred steps of sand when you go to Mount Putuo. This is the best place to see the Buddha lying on the sea.

Baibusha, located in Fusaki, is the best place to surf and watch the sunrise, and it is also the best place to watch Luojiashan, a reclining Buddha at sea. There is a small slope extending into the sea in the middle of the beach, and a small and exquisite pavilion called Shishi Pavilion is built on the slope, which is a good place for tourists to watch the sunrise, listen to the tides and soak in the sea breeze. Summer is a good place to cool off. At night, the sea breeze blows gently and the air is fresh, which is a good place for tourists to enjoy the cool and take a walk.
