Since the May 4th Movement, the new literature has been magnificent, and the literary landscape has also been competing with each other. During his college years, he made a large number of literature teachers and friends, including Yu Dafu, Cao Juren, Wang Jingzhi and Zhang Yiping, and also became close friends with Lu Xun, Liang Shiqiu, Xu Zhimo and Shen Congwen. He used to be the editor-in-chief of Areca Monthly and started literary creation. He made his mark in Shanghai and Shanghai literature in 1930s with his poems, novels and essays.

After arriving in Nanyang, he wrote a large number of works and published them in newspapers and periodicals in Singapore and Malaysia.
