Although archaism and formalism prevail, there are still many works that reflect social contradictions and expose the darkness of reality. Realism tradition is still inherited and developed by some writers with progressive ideas and national consciousness. The constant pursuit of innovation in the form of skills has also accumulated certain artistic experience for the development of poetry. Most of the works of adherents of the early Qing Dynasty dared to face reality, reflecting the national struggle of that era and showing their thoughts and feelings for the motherland.
Poets in Qing Dynasty were good at learning from their predecessors, learning from each other's strong points and developing classical poetry. However, the literary inquisition in Qing Dynasty made some poets afraid of political persecution, but at the same time they were confused by the apparent peace, which diluted the in-depth observation and exposure of social contradictions and restricted the higher achievements of Qing poetry. On the whole, however, the poets in Qing Dynasty were dissatisfied with the weakness of Yuan poetry and the shortcomings of Ming poetry, which were retro, shallow and narrow. They absorbed the advantages of Tang and Song poetry in skills and constantly pursued innovation, reflecting the reality at that time to varying degrees. Their achievements surpassed those of Yuan and Ming Dynasties, which was enough to open up the future of China's classical poetry.
