In the early 1940s, Yan Ming actively participated in various activities of the Association of Literary Progressives and Anti-Japanese Writers headed by Guo Moruo in Chongqing, and edited poems. Soon he went to the anti-Japanese front line in central Hubei to edit Victory Newspaper, and then went to Enshi, Hubei to be the editor of Literature Supplement. After the founding of New China, Yan Ming successively served as the editor-in-chief of Xinmin Daily, Popular Poetry Magazine, Beijing Daily, Beijing Publishing House and October. In the long editing career, Yan Ming not only enthusiastically trained many young writers and poets, but also collected precious comments and works of more than a dozen famous old writers in the 1950s from newspapers and periodicals, and successively edited and published a set of works of old writers for Guo Moruo, Xia Yan, Ba Jin, Lao She, Cao Yu,,,, Liu, Guo Xiaochuan and Xu Chi.

While doing a good job in editing, Yan Ming keeps climbing new heights of new poetry creation. From 65438 to 0979, Yan Ming devoted himself to the creation of modern landscape poems and made pioneering achievements. After his group poem Huangshan was published, it was written as a large-scale chorus poem by Hong Kong composers and performed in Beijing, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Southeast Asian countries, Japan, the United States and other countries, causing a sensation and having a wide influence. He has won two Taiwan Province Jinding Awards, and CCTV filmed a special art film "Poetry and Music Combined with Huangshan Emotion" for this purpose. Yan Ming began to publish his works on 1940, and recently published the last group of handwritten poems that he was difficult to hold during his illness. He completed his 66-year arduous journey as a poet, published more than ten kinds of poems and talked about one kind of poem. Strict landscape poems are elegant and fresh, bright and gorgeous, affectionate and graceful, lyrical and concise, and are deeply loved by readers. Strict poetry and personality are always as fragrant as gardenia in his hometown, and are often praised in his poems.

He died in Beijing at 8 pm on September, 2006 15 at the age of 86.
