Fairy tales and fables have many similarities. For example, the plots of the stories are fictitious, often use anthropomorphic techniques, and both have the functions of admonishment, praise or satire, etc. However, there are also differences between the two.
1. Distinguish fables from complexity and length. The plot of fables is simple, the length is short, and the language is concise, usually only a few to a few hundred words. The plot of fairy tales is richer, more varied, more vivid and interesting than fables, the structure is more complex, and the length is longer.
2. Distinguish fables from the focus of expression. Focus on the allegory and lessons contained in the fables, focusing on thoughts. Some fables directly state the meaning of warning at the beginning or end. Fairy tales, on the other hand, focus on portraying images, and the teachings are not so strong. The educational significance is often embedded in the entire story and is not pointed out directly. Scientific fairy tales focus on the dissemination of knowledge.
3. It is relatively simple to distinguish fables from the plot structure. They generally do not have a complete storyline and do not require the creation of an anthropomorphic image with a distinctive personality. Fairy tales have higher requirements in terms of plot arrangement and character creation.
