1. Writing "Miscellaneous Comments on Tang Poetry"
From 1930 to 1932, Wen Yiduo started with Tang poetry. He could not see the garden or go downstairs. Put your best effort into it. Mr. Wen's hair is always messy, and he has no time for it. He almost forgot to eat, he was greedy for spiritual food; he slept very little at night, for the sake of research, he cherished every inch of the shade and divided the shade.
Moveless, silent and silent. One after another, large square bamboo paper notebooks are filled with densely packed small regular script, like a swarm of ants arranging the Yamen. After several years of hard work, the fruit of "Miscellaneous Comments on Tang Poems" has been condensed.
2. Writing "Compendium of Chu Ci"
Starting from Wuhan University, Wen Yiduo began to devote himself to the research of ancient Chinese literature. He started with Tang poetry and then traced it back, from the Han, Wei and Six Dynasties poems to the Songs of Chu. After ten years of hard work, a "correction" came out.
3. Writing "The New Meaning of Classics"
In the autumn of 1932, he returned to his alma mater, Tsinghua University, as a professor in the Department of Chinese Literature, engaged in the research of Chinese classical literature, and moved towards a new meaning of classical literature. He was attentive and focused, and became the master of "why not go downstairs".
4. Writing "Review of Winter Night Grass"
In July 1922, Wen Yiduo went to the United States to study. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago, the University of Colorado, and the New York Academy of Art. While studying, he specialized in art and achieved outstanding results, he also showed great interest in literature, especially his love for poetry. At the end of the year, "Winter Night Cao'er Review" co-authored with Liang Shiqiu was published, which represented Wen Yiduo's early views on new poetry.
5. Hard work in reading and studying poetry
In the 1940s, Mr. Wen Yiduo, who was a professor at Kunming United University, had insufficient salary to support his family. His wife was sick and his children were at home. Too much, life is difficult to maintain. He had to carve seals to support his family. Over time, big bumps formed on my fingers and my eyes became blurry. For a while, there was only a pot of bean dregs stewed with cabbage on the family dining table. Occasionally, if I ate a little tofu, everyone would happily call it "white meat."
During those years in Kunming, Mr. Wen Yiduo’s family not only suffered hardships, but also lived in poor conditions. For a time, a family of eight huddled in the upper floor of a modest farmhouse. Children make bunks on the floor at night and roll up their bunks during the day to make room for eating, reading and writing. Once a friend came to visit Wen Yiduo and couldn't help but feel emotional when he saw how difficult their living conditions were.
Wen Yiduo said with emotion: "I have taught Du Fu's poetry for many years. Only through personal experience can I understand Du Fu's mood and mind.
