Introduction to Tian Jian
Tian Jian (1916-1985), formerly known as Tong Tianjian, is a modern poet. Born in rural area in 1916. A native of Wuwei County, Anhui Province. In 1933, he was admitted to the Foreign Languages ??Department of Shanghai Guanghua University. In 1934, he joined the Chinese Left-wing Writers Alliance and participated in the editing work of "Literary Series" and "New Poetry". In 1935, he served as the editor-in-chief of "Weekly Poetry" and wrote and published his first work "Unming Collection". In 1936, he published a collection of short poems "Chinese Pastoral", which described the people's anti-Japanese struggle in Northeast China, and a long poem "Story of China Rural Areas", which used the Red Army's Long March as the background and described the peasant resistance struggle. Both books were banned by the Kuomintang government, and the authors narrowly escaped arrest. After the "July 7th Incident", he returned to Shanghai to write anti-war poems. That autumn I went to Wuhan and wrote "For the Fighters". The poem expressed the people's determination to resist aggression and inspired the people's will to fight. It was recognized as an excellent political lyric at the time. At the end of the year, he worked as a field reporter in the Northwest Field Service Corps led by the Eighth Route Army. In the spring and summer of 1938, he went to Yan'an to launch the Street Poetry Movement Day (August 7) ??with his colleagues in the literary and art circles. His poem "If We Don't Go to War" spread throughout the country, and was called "the drum poet" and "the drummer of the times" by Wen Yiduo. He joined the Communist Party of China in August of that year. At the end of the year, he went to the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei border area behind enemy lines to work as a war reporter. Participated in the Hundred Regiment War.
After liberation, he served as a member of the Party Leadership Group of the Chinese Writers Association, director of the Creative Department, director of the Literary Research Office, and editorial board member of "Poetry Magazine". In 1958, he concurrently served as chairman of the Hebei Federation of Literary and Art Circles. In 1964, he attended the Third National People's Congress and went to Cairo to attend the Asian and African Writers Conference. In the late period of the "Cultural Revolution", he served as party secretary and leader of the Hebei Provincial Literature and Art Group. In 1978, he attended the Fifth National People's Congress. Later, he served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Hebei Provincial People's Congress and a member of the Chinese branch of the International PEN Center. Died of illness in 1985.
