The regular script and cursive script are learned from Zhong Yao and Wang Xizhi, and the small characters are close to Wang Chong. They are affiliated to the ritual stele, the Shichen stele, and the Yiying stele. They are vigorous and rigorous, and follow the example of Zhao Mengfu. He often uses burnt ink to paint the cracked spots on mountains, rivers, trees and rocks, which is lifelike. When he paints plum blossoms, the branches are straight and graceful, and they are extremely fresh and moist. He painted orchids for his friend Huang Dan, and wrote a quatrain on the painting: "The king and the sun are ashamed to hang out with the Kuai, and the Xuanhe avoids the chickens; when he sees the leader among the Xiaoai, he only knows the original identity of Jingwei." The calligraphy and painting are both green, Very much appreciated. People rush to collect his works. The Shunde Museum currently has his "Imati Flower Picture", the Provincial Museum has the "Dark Plum Picture Scroll" and "Landscape Fan Page", the Guangzhou Art Museum has the "Orchid and Bamboo Scroll" and "Flower Scroll", and the Foshan Museum has There is "Imitation of Wang Yuanzhang's Plum Blossom Scroll".

Zhang Jinfang loves art as much as his life. When he reported illness and returned south to Jiangxi, his boat capsized and fell into the water. He even ignored his life and still held up the plum blossom painted by Wang Yuanzhang and an ancient inkstone with both hands. Under his influence, several painters emerged from his nephews. Among them, his nephew Zhang Ruzhi was the most accomplished and became one of the most influential figures in the Guangdong painting circle during the Jiaqing and Daoguang years.
