The Raven
The Crow
Written by Edgar Allan Poe

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weakry. ?
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weakry. ?
Over many a quint and curious volume of forgotten lore.
Pondering many strange and bizarre rumors that have long been forgotten——
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
< p>As I started to doze off and almost fell asleep, I suddenly heard a gentle rapping,As of some one rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
As if someone was tapping lightly. , knocking gently on my door.
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door--
Door——
Only this, and nothing more."
Only this, and nothing more."
Ah , distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
Oh, I clearly remember it was in the bleak December;
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Each dying ember cast a shadow across the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; -vainly I had tried to borrow
I was really looking forward to the next day; - because I had tried in vain
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore-
I want to use books to eliminate the sorrow - to eliminate the sorrow for the loss of Lenore-
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore-
Because of the girl called Lenore by the angels, she is beautiful and delicate——
Nameless here for evermore
But unknown here, forever .
And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
That soft, dim, rustling rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me-filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
Thrilled me-filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
To calm my heart, I stood repeating. I stood up and muttered repeatedly
" ' Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door-
"This is someone who wants to enter the house and is knocking on my door--.
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;-
Even late at night, someone wanted to enter the house and knocked on my door;——
This it is and nothing more.
That’s all, nothing more.
