Who is Guan Yu - Guan Yu, whose courtesy name is Yunchang and whose real name is Changsheng, was born in Jie County, Hedong, Bingzhou.
In the novel "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms", it is described that Guan Yu was nine feet tall, but there is no record in "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms". Guan Yu was a famous general under Liu Bei at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty. In the novel, he was sworn friends with Liu Bei and Zhang Fei Taoyuan. He was a former general of the Shu Han regime and was elevated to the title of Marquis Shouting of the Han Dynasty. There are some fantastic stories in the novel, such as "Riding a Thousand Miles Alone", "Going to a Banquet Alone" and "Beheading Hua Xiong with Warm Wine".
The description of Guan Yu's weapons in the novel "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is as follows: "Yan Liang was caught off guard, and Yun Chang raised a knife and stabbed him under the horse: Guan Gong's horse was fast, and he caught up with Wen Chou and stabbed him in the back of the head. "Beheaded by the horse."
So what is Guan Gong's weapon? There is a poem describing it this way: "Guan Gong raises the sword to conquer the Han Dynasty. Who dares to fight against the millions of Cao soldiers? The slanting shadow crosses the moon in the clouds, and the Qinglong sword is unparalleled." From here we can know that Guan Yu's weapon is the Qinglong Yanyue sword. However, this kind of sword appears in In the Song Dynasty, it was only used for ceremonial purposes and had no practical value. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was used as a weightlifting equipment for martial arts examinations.
Some experts have verified that in the Han Dynasty, "halberds were the most popular, followed by spears." However, during the Three Kingdoms era, there was no long-handled broadsword like the Qinglong Yanyue Sword. Weapons like the Yanyue Sword appeared in the Tang and Song Dynasties. They were mainly used for drills to demonstrate martial prowess and were not used in actual combat. There is only such a record in "Three Kingdoms, Biography of Guan Yu": "Shao sent General Yan Liang to attack Liu Yan, the prefect of Dongjun, on Baima. Duke Cao sent Zhang Liao and Yu as the vanguard to attack. When Yu saw Liang's subordinate Gai, he spurred Liang Yu on his horse. Among the thousands of people, he beheaded and returned, but none of the generals could do it, so he broke the siege of Baima." From this, many people concluded that the weapons Guan Yu used were spears, halberds and other piercing weapons.
