A native of Heshan, Guangdong, he was born in Shanghai in 1923. In his early years, he participated in writing reform work. Graduated from the Chinese Literature Department of Shanghai Daxia University in 1945. Later, he engaged in editing work and worked for a long time in Children's Publishing House and Shanghai Translation Publishing House. In 1941, he translated the first Soviet novel. In 1945, he translated the first children's literature. From then on, he made children's literature his lifelong career. Not long after Shanghai was liberated. He is responsible for editing the "Soviet Children's Literature Series". After the Children's Publishing House was established in 1952, he was in charge of editing foreign literature and published many good books. Since the 1960s, under the initiative of Ren Rongrong and others, Children's Publishing House has begun to systematically introduce representative foreign children's literature works and publish anthologies of important writers.
