This poem was written in the spring of the first year of Baoying (762), when Du Fu lived in a thatched cottage in Chengdu. From the winter of last year to February of this year, there was a drought in Chengdu, so when the spring rain came, Du Fu was very happy. He described the drizzle on a spring night with the joy of a long drought.
