Chinese is the most important communication tool for human beings, Chinese education in primary and secondary schools is the basis of all-round quality education, and excellent Chinese and foreign literary works are the important content of Chinese learning. In order to improve the Chinese quality of primary and secondary school students in an all-round way, the Ministry of Education promulgated the Chinese Curriculum Standards for Full-time Compulsory Education and the Chinese Curriculum Standards for Ordinary Senior High Schools in 20001and 2003 (hereinafter referred to as the New Curriculum Standards). The New Curriculum Standard stipulates the reading amount of students in different stages and 52 kinds of extracurricular reading materials, including 20 kinds in the nine-year compulsory education stage and 32 kinds in the high school stage.
In order to actively cooperate with the implementation of the new Chinese curriculum standard, according to the bibliography designated by the Ministry of Education, our society has specially launched a set of "compulsory reading series for the majority of primary and secondary school students". This series not only includes all the bibliographies designated by the Ministry of Education, but also makes appropriate extensions and expansions according to the requirements of the new curriculum standards.
