Goddess, published in 192 1, is the first collection of poems by Guo Moruo and the first new collection of poems in the history of modern literature in China that truly shows modern consciousness and spirit of the times in ideological content and artistic form. (The earliest published collection of vernacular poems was Hu Shi's Attempt Collection, which was published in 19 18, but it did not completely get rid of the shackles of old poems.
