What does the Shangqing Jing mainly talk about?

The emergence and spread of Shangqing Sutra are closely connected with the founding of Shangqing Sect. According to Tao Hongjing's "Zhen Gao" Volume 20, during the reign of Emperor Ai of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the Taoist priest Yang Xi claimed to be Mrs. Wei and other immortals who came to teach him Volume 31 of the "Shang Qing Jing". So Yang Xi first recorded it in official script, and then passed it on to Xu Mi and Xu Yong as confucian teachers. The two Xu copied it separately and passed it on to each other. In the process of teaching and receiving the Shangqing Jing, Yang, Xu and others gradually established the Shangqing sect of Taoism at that time. The "Shangqing Jing" originally had 31 volumes, but it continued to increase in volume and became a voluminous classic. The most important of the Sutras in the Shangqing Dynasty are the "Huang Ting Jing" and the "Thirty-Nine Chapters of the Shangqing Dadong Zhenjing" which were written earlier. The main invention of "Shangqing Jing" is the cultivation method of internal vision and thinking. These scriptures believe that the various parts and joints of the human body are just like the outside world, and are guarded by gods. If Taoists can know the names, images, etc. of these gods, persist in thinking about the gods and truths in their hearts, and communicate with the true spirits. By chanting sutras, chanting mantras, swallowing liquids and other magical techniques, you can feel the spirit descending and enter the body, so that you can calm your soul and your spirit, and live forever. Those with superior abilities can even ascend to the higher realms and become immortals and gods. The advent of Shangqing classics such as the "Dadong Zhenjing" has enriched Taoist cultivation techniques. Previously, in Taoist practice, taking the golden elixir was the ultimate way to achieve immortality. However, the Shangqing sect, which respected the "Shangqing Sutra", regarded reciting the "Dadong Zhenjing" and preserving the gods as the ultimate way. This kind of thinking technique later developed further and absorbed the theory of external alchemy, thus forming the inner alchemy sect in Taoism.
