Analysis:
Saxifraga plants
(Saxifyoaga stolonifera Meerb)
Saxifraga, alias Jinlian Leaf and Diaoqian, belongs to Saxifragaceae and Saxifraga.
[Morphological characteristics]
An evergreen herb with a slender stem that can grow new plants at the top. The plant height is about 10 cm, and the whole plant is hairy. Simple leaves, clustered at the base, long stalks, round or kidney-shaped leaves, dark green surface, white stripes on veins, sparsely sharp teeth on the edge of leaves, purplish red on the back, densely covered with spherical fine points. White flowers, 5 petals, reddish scape, multi-branched, 9 flowers per branch. Flowering from May to June, the capsule is ovoid. (see figure1-19)
There are three-color Saxifraga varieties, the leaves have white or milky broad edges, inlaid with red, yellow and white patches.
[Habitual]
Native to China and Japan, it is widely distributed in the south of Qinling Mountains. Like a humid environment, general soil can grow, but it grows well in loose and well-drained soil. The original seed is relatively cold-resistant, and the left temperature of 5~C is not damaged. However, Saxifraga tricolor is not cold-resistant and has the lowest wintering ability. The temperature should be 15℃.
[Cultivation techniques]
Propagation: Sowing and ramet propagation are mostly used. Sow in March-April, and seedlings can emerge in about half a month. Ramet propagation can be carried out all year round.
Management: the ground should be planted in a wet place, not too dry and exposed to the sun. Potted plants can be placed in a bright room all year round, and it is best to hang them near the sunny window. During the growing period, water frequently, apply fertilizer properly, and keep the soil moist, but don't accumulate water. There is a short semi-dormancy period after flowering, so you can water less appropriately to keep the soil dry. Only potted plants are suitable for indoor wintering in the north.
[use]
Saxifraga can watch leaves all year round and can be decorated with landscape bonsai.
