Mao (1594 ~ 1644? ), whose real name is Shi Min, was born in An (now Xing Wu, Zhejiang). From an early age, he "liked to read The Road between Soldiers and Peasants" (Volume 69 of Forty Sets of Shi Min). As an adult, he was familiar with the strategy of fighting. He was the chief of staff of Levin, the right assistant minister of the Ministry of War in charge of Liaodong, and was later reused by Sun Chengzong, the minister of the Ministry of War.

In the second year of Chongzhen (1629), he was promoted to deputy commander-in-chief and served as the ship's boss, guarding Juehua Island (that is, Chrysanthemum Island, now the south of Xingcheng, Liaoning Province). He was found guilty, sent to Zhangpu (now Fujian), worried about the country and the people, and died of depression. He witnessed the abandonment of military equipment, and talked about the strategy of prosperity many times. He collected more than 2,000 books on the art of war of military strategists, which took 15 years to compile into a Military Reader.
