The original texts of ancient books and essays

"Stone like jade shines on mountains and rivers, and water is full of pearls and rivers" refers to plain mountains and rivers. Because of the existence of rough jade and orbs, they have luster, loveliness and charm.

Wen Fu, written by Lu Ji in Jin Dynasty.

Excerpt from the original:

Or hold your head high and stay out of the crowd; Form can not be ignored, and sound is difficult to tie. The block is isolated and unique, and it is a place with unusual sound. Heart in prison, but no lovers, wandering thoughts, but helpless. Stone as jade shines on mountains, and water is full of pearls and beautiful rivers. Don't be afraid, you will get the glory of Ji Cui.

Translation:

Sometimes individual sentences stand out, like reeds in full bloom and seedlings showing stability. A beautiful sentence is lonely and detached, and it is by no means a good match. It is difficult to find good sentences when you are at a loss, and you are reluctant to give up when you are hesitant. Strange pens, like jade hidden in stones, make mountains shine, like pearls in water, make rivers beautiful. Unclipped shrubs are not beautiful, and attracting kingfishers will also increase beauty.

Creation background

Great changes have taken place in literature during the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties. During this period, the court played a central role and formed a literary group centered on the court. The convergence within the group makes literature present a group style at this time and another style at another time, which makes the stages of literature development quite obvious.

This work was created under such a background. During the two or three years from the first year of Yongning to the second year of Taian, because the kings were particularly unrestrained, they frequently attacked and killed people. Although Lu Ji is a scholar in Chinese literature and a scholar in plain literature and history, he has a very sad sigh: "Heaven is long, humanity is short, and all roads lead to the same goal, and there is no sooner or later!"

During this period, Lu Ji was idle for more than a year, and the time was relatively quiet. His mood was hazy about the world and he created a lot. It was easy to arouse the passion of summing up his creative experience and the times, so he wrote Wen Fu.

Wen Fu is China's earliest monograph on literary creation, and the full text is written in the form of Fu. Lu Ji, the author, vividly described and analyzed the psychological characteristics and process of his creation with his personal experience in literary practice of prose and fu, and expressed his aesthetic education thought. Mainly includes:

1, "Emotion is based on material feelings, and writing is based on emotion". Wen Fu believes that emotion is the origin and starting point of literary creation impulse. In the process of artistic imagination, many psychological activities are intertwined, emotion, reason, images and words follow one after another, and the artistic image to be created is more and more clear and distinct.

2. "Cage heaven and earth in shape, frustrate everything in pen". "Wen Fu" fully affirmed the role of artistic imagination, holding that in the conception stage, the author was completely immersed in the process of artistic imagination in the creative process, that is, "looking at the past and the present in an instant, saving the world in an instant" and "ruling the world with form and frustrating everything with pen"

3. "The meeting of feelings, the discipline of communication." Wen Fu emphasizes the role of inspiration in literary creation, pointing out that the achievement of artistic creation is equivalent to "emotional meeting and communication training", that is to say, inspiration is closely related, and it is considered that inspiration has the characteristics of "you can't stop, go deep into it" and "you are either exhausted and regret it, or you are willing to do nothing".

4. "It is wonderful to know, but it is expensive to say." . In terms of artistic style, prose advocates beauty and emphasizes "American language". This reflects the new fashion of emphasizing formal beauty in the Six Dynasties.

5. Wen Fu divides literary styles into ten types, and briefly outlines the characteristics of each style. It can be said that "Wen Fu" summarizes the law of the whole artistic creation thinking to a certain extent.

Wen Fu is the earliest monograph on the characteristics of literary creation in ancient China, which is of great significance and value in the history of aesthetics.
