The source of Su Ju's musical singing is mainly composed of three parts, one is Kunqu Qupai, the other is Nanci, and the third is Tan Chundiao. Influenced by Kunqu Opera, Su Ju's musical style is euphemistic, beautiful, delicate and moving, with a strong flavor of the south of the Yangtze River.
Su Ju's accompaniment takes erhu as the main instrument, and also uses Jiangnan silk and bamboo. There are dozens of traditional tunes commonly used, such as Taiping tune, chord tune, Feijia tune, firewood tune, charming tune, silver twisted wire, running water board, tune and bubble tune, among which Taiping tune is the most widely used, and there are various types of boards such as adagio, Allegro and Sanban.
In addition, there are some songs originated from Kunqu Opera, such as Qu Tou, Jiang Yifeng, Dian Jiang Lip, Yuan Chaoge, Suonan Paper, Liu Moling, Yu Diao Pai Ge and so on. Some folk songs circulating in Suzhou, such as Spring Tune, Broken Jade, Big Nine Chains, Little Nine Chains, Farewell to Five Companies and Intimate Guests, are often used as interludes.
In performance, Su Ju studied Kunqu Opera and absorbed and melted the performing art of Kunqu Opera as a whole. The first generation of actors Zhu Guoliang, Gong Xiangfu and Zhang Xian are also Kunqu opera actors.
The first Suzhou Opera Troupe, Guofeng Suzhou Opera Troupe, was composed of Su Ju and Kunqu Opera actors. Some plays performed over the years, such as Drunk Return and The Story of the White Rabbit, are all performed in the style of Kunqu Opera.
Su Ju actors such as "Ji" and "Cheng" of Jiangsu Troupe laid the foundation for Kunqu Opera at the beginning of their studies and also performed Kunqu Opera.
Su Ju's role is basically the same as that of Kunqu Opera, but its branch is not as strict as that of Kunqu Opera. In the class club, the clown is the first protagonist and Dan Jiao is the second protagonist. In actual singing, only five or seven actors sat around the table, playing the roles of different lines and singing by themselves, including the old man, the villain, Dan, Lao Dan and the ugly guy.
Old students play the roles of old officials, foreign ministers, cold scholars and old servants. Assistant actors and foreigners should be played by experienced actors, such as Liu Zhiyuan in The White Rabbit, Qian in Zhu Maichen's Ex-wife, and Qian in The King.
There are no special casting actors in Su Ju, and a few casting roles, including those with big faces, white faces and sloppy faces, are performed by experienced actors, such as Bao Zheng in Qin Xianglian, Dong Zhuo in The Story of Diesim, and Lu Bu and Gong Dou in Gong Du Song Zi.
Xiao Sheng plays a young scholar, or a lonely scholar, or a young official, or a handsome and brave man. There are three kinds of actors: Guan Sheng, Jin Sheng, Xie Pisheng and Zi Ling Sheng. They are all performed by minority actors, such as Wang Kui in Wang Kui's Negative Guiying, Tang Bohu in Tang Bohu Zhiyuan Plum Blossom Dream, Wang Mingfang in Lian Zhandian, and Lu Bu in The Story of Diusim and Lu Bu.
The roles played by Dan Xing are daughters, concubines, maids, little jasper or middle-aged women, including Zuo Dan, Sidan, Wudan and Liu Dan, all of which are played by Dan actors, such as Li Sanniang in Hunting of the White Rabbit, Zhou Ruilong in Finding a Family, The Fisherman's Song and Wu Feixia in Spring Fragrance.
Lao Dan plays all kinds of elderly women, such as Cui Furen in The West Chamber, the Queen Mother in The King and the Drunken Lady. Ugly Dan is usually decorated by actors from Lao Dan.
Clowns act as cunning and insidious literati, sons, gamblers, villains, or humorous and kind little people. , which is equivalent to the two sides and facets of Kunqu Opera, are performed by clown actors, such as Lou Rat in Fifteen Passes, Dr. Cha in Finding Relatives, Zhang Laosan in Houtan Opera, Ma Langdang in Ma Langdang and boating on the lake.
There are foreigners, old students, minor graduates, crown graduates, towel graduates, pheasant graduates, poor graduates, Lao Dan, Zheng Dan, Zuo Dan, Stan, wudan, Liu Dan, Jing, minor graduates and Ugly. Actors often play several roles at the same time, for example, the old man plays the foreigner and the deputy, the deputy plays the ugly man, and Zheng Dan plays Dan, Si Dan, Wu Dan and.
After long-term stage practice, Su Ju has gradually formed a unique style of simplicity, exquisiteness and attention to inner experience, which fully embodies the characteristics of Suzhou culture.
