Shang Chengzuo's Academic Contribution

Mr. Shang Chengzuo's achievements in his life are enormous and multifaceted. At the age of 20, Mr. Shang Chengzuo entered Peking University as a graduate student of Chinese studies. When he published A Collection of Characters in Yin Ruins, he was 2 1 year old, which can be described as a weak crown. This book is the earliest Oracle Bone Inscriptions reference book in China. Wang Guowei once praised it: "If this book was written by Xiyong, it can be passed down from generation to generation."

Following the Compilation of Yin Ruins, he not only studied and interpreted the existing materials in Oracle Bone Inscriptions, but also actively sorted out and interpreted the new materials in Oracle Bone Inscriptions. He has successively published papers such as Textual Research on Yin Ruins, Research on Characters Used in Yin Ruins, Query on the Establishment of Characters, Wu Shi, Shi Shen, No Four Theories on Yin Shang, Characters in Yin Ruins, Research on Oracle Characters and Zhong Ding Characters, and compiled and published Fu's Collection of Oracle Characters. The loss of Yin Qi was written in 1933. This book records the original Oracle bones collected by six families, three rubbings, *** 1000, and makes textual research. It is a necessary book for studying Oracle bones. This book not only preserves a lot of precious historical materials, but also elaborates on textual research and interpretation, which can be described as the representative work of Mr. Shang's research on Oracle Bone Inscriptions. In addition to Oracle Bone Inscriptions, Mr. Shang also devoted himself to the collection and research of bronzes and their inscriptions in the late 1920s, and paid attention to the identification of forgeries. Twelve Harvest Records of Gold can be described as the representative work of Mr. Shang's research on bronze inscriptions. This book is compiled from 169 bronzes collected by 12 home and abroad. It drew beautiful pictures for each of them, described their colors, described their sizes in detail, added inscriptions and made textual research. Just as his "Yin Qi Yi Cun" is a must-have book for the treatment of Oracle Bone Inscriptions, it is also a must-have book for the treatment of bronze inscriptions. In addition, Mr. Shang is also the author of Catalogue of Yi wares in Baoyunlou, Study on Pseudo-characters of Ancient Yi wares, and Map of Hunyuan Yi wares.

In the field of Warring States script and Qin and Han scripts, Mr. Shang spent half a century writing many works, mainly including Collection of Stone Carvings and Seal Characters, Textual Research on Ancient Chinese Characters, Brief Introduction of Chu Silk Script in Warring States, Opening Examination of Oroqen Festival, Collection of Chu Bamboo Script in Warring States and so on. Shang 1939 Changsha Antiquities Records and 194 1 Continued Records are praised by archaeologists as the pioneering works of Chu culture research. After the age of 80, he also cooperated with Wang Guichen and Tan Dihua to publish the Collection of Pre-Qin Currency, which is the first currency dictionary in China, and it is also the first time to summarize the research on currency and characters in the form of a dictionary for nearly a hundred years.

In his life, Mr. Shang Chengzuo has never let go of any archaeological material. He always sorts out, interprets and studies from the perspective of preserving cultural relics and promoting cultural heritage, and studies ancient history and collates ancient books by using ancient characters and artifacts, which has made great contributions to the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional culture. Professor Shang Chengzuo has written a lot in his life, including * * * monograph 15, two collections of calligraphy works and more than 60 academic papers.

Discrimination of Lei Wen in Yin Ruins (1923 woodcut edition) is a relatively complete Oracle dictionary. The book is divided into 14 volumes and 4 184 words. Among them, there are 3,394 repeated articles and 790 in Oracle Bone Inscriptions. The style of this book is imitated from Shuo Wen Jie Zi, arranged by radicals, and analyzed from three aspects: characters, phonology and exegesis, thus making this book the most complete and detailed Oracle dictionary at that time.
